Tim Dunn was fascinated by bees. When he was a teenager, he spent hours studying a colony near his home, learning how it functioned. Each bee knew its role and embraced its work. Scouts found pollen. Guards prevented unwelcome outsiders from entering the hive. The eventual political response targeted the visible decadents, not the structural rentiers, and the result was the catastrophe everyone knows.

The contemporary version of this move is the daily content of the British and American culture war. The behaviours of Conspicuous Despair (the OnlyFans, the gambling, the substance use, the failure to marry, the failure to reproduce, the failure to strive) are presented as the causes of decline, when they are in fact the symptoms. The cause is the rentier capture of the assets that constitute the reference standard of living: housing, principally, but also education, healthcare, and the credentialled pathways to professional employment.

guy is wearing a tux and holding flowers. behind him a girl is standing with her head on his shoulder but her entire face except for one of her eyes is in deep shadow and the only other visible part of her is her dress rippling out from his side, but the tux is also in such deep shadow that the edge of the dress seems to merge with it. i love this ad a lot.

watching the sun go behind a planet on a desert moon (shifting location). felt like some kind of graphics/physics/lighting error bc it was a rocky planet but you could see where the sun was "through" the planet. also tons of indirect light even during totality. looked great though
