And more of Auckland by night, plus one cheeky actually still daylight one for good measure.

The people in the image are entirely silhouetted. There's a variety of people doing a variety of things — huddled together in discussion, sitting down with their food, ordering at the counters, and more, giving the image the feeling it's been taken in a bustling and lively metropolis.

A straight on image of a building under construction or renovation. The floors are entirely bare and without facades, letting us look straight through the criss cross supports at the front, to the scaffolding fencing immediately behind. And far back on the floor a cluster of tradition wooden picnic tables — the kind you might expect to see at a park rather than several stories up — nestled under coiled up wiring dangling from the ceiling.

It has spikes along its top, jutting up along with a few errant stalks of the hedge into an otherwise unmarred sky. Overall despite the largely natural subject matter, the composition takes on a harsh, geometric element.

Night photography! Handheld, as I'm still nervous putting the rolleicord on a tripod without a rolleifix. Despite that and the 3.5 maximum aperture, it's very manageable even well after sunset. (Which is nice, given sunset is 5pm at the moment...) #photography #filmphotography #mediumformat

A nighttime photo, the silhouette of a building with zigzag sloped roof sections takes up the bottom third of the image. In the centre of the building we can see the opening of the dairy, with slightly greenish tinged light spilling out of the doorway and windows, it's almost overwhelmingly bright to look at. A person is stepping through the door, and the well stocked and colorful shelves are visible further into the building. Above that, the sky smoothly fades from a dusky pink up to a deep royal blue, with the moon and two planets visible. On the right side of the image, power lines swoop in from the top of frame, away and towards a power pole that juts up on the right edge of the frame, about two thirds of the way up, the one interruption in the sky above the foreground.

The red door in the centre of the storefront is slightly inset, open, and the window in it is framing two paper lanterns warmly glowing inside. They're cold, bright white — so bright they cast a glow around them on the film, and spill that bluish light onto the shiny grey flagstones in front of the building, on which traces of the rain earlier that day are still puddling and shining. To the right of the doorway there is a window, not much can be seen through it other than the warm welcoming yellow glow inside, contrasting with the cold light outside. To the left of the doorway a menu is placed on the wall, and another window, this one short and squat is to the left of that. In it a colorful yellow, blue, and pink neon sign is glowing and reads "OPEN, welcome". Through the window you can see a chair, well behind that a glimpse of the bar customers can sit up at, more paper lanterns hanging over the bar, and more sense of the warm refuge awaiting inside, and out of the cold winter night.

I expect it'll be a different beast on film, should get proper scans back in a day or two. My digital is apsc and the lens gets more extreme on the edges. And the viewfinder always looks more tame than the actual result... Overall a quirky lil thing that I imagine I'll just have to learn how to use!

Yeah, it's got a crazy design compared to the later 2.8 soft focus. This one's just a pair of front elements and an aperture, which has clicks at the stops and is endlessly adjustable between them! The lack of glass also makes it surprisingly light.

I got myself another self-indulgent camera thing — a pentax 85mm f/2.2 soft focus lens. It's an interesting experience shooting with it: wide open it's deeply silly and very fun, and stopping down makes it more practical while retaining a nice amount of character. #photography

A very soft, fuzzy, but still discernable image of a green bejewelled spider broach. Highlights have these huge flares scattering out towards the edges of the frame.

A less soft, more sharp, more contrasty image of the spider broach. The flares have a slight hexagonal shape from the aperture blades.

A rather sharp image of the spider, albeit softer further from the centre. The highlights now only have marginal flares, but they're still present.

A rather normal looking image of the spider broach, at least in the centre. The edges are slightly soft but not unusually so. The image now has full contrast typical of what you'd expect too, with well differentiated midtones and shadows. Highlights have a very slight flare to them.

Kentmere 200 is crazy good for the price, the halation it has adds a nice bit of character. The shovel initially caught my eye, but I really like how it wound up balancing with the rest of the composition in the final image. Rolleicord Va/Kentmere pan 200 in Ilford ID11. #photography

On the top left is some foliage, which is also dark, and the top right is a wooden structure with a clear roof and a shovel resting on it. The middle of the image is an extremely bright, blank sky, which causes a glow to diffuse around the dark foreground elements in the center of the image.

In the bottom half of the image, the building extends upwards or perhaps outwards from the bottom to the middle. Down the centre a series of symmetric pairs of windows run along its length, flanked by several evenly spaced vanes perpendicular to the face of the building and extending upwards. This is viewed through a glass roof, with a line down the middle that is its peak, two more lines extend from the top of the image outwards at 45 degrees, meeting another right angle on the edge. The top right section of glass is especially covered in lichen or some other filth or texture, with a small amount on the other various panes being looked through too.

More pics! Really satisfied with how many good ones I got. Especially as with film you're limited with the total number you can take, and my film cameras are all manual so it's a lil harder to make the most of that number, so it's a decent hit rate overall.

His right side (the left side of the image) is obscured by some sort of shadow, perhaps a person between the lens and the subject but it's hard to tell, further enhancing the drama of the image with the amount of negative space it creates.

Jude, the vocalist of the band is playing a black telecaster, wearing a white shirt, and singing into a mic.

The bassist from the first image, lit more evenly by two spotlights, the square pendant from his necklace catching the light extremely brightly. He's looking down and to his left at the neck of his bass as he plays it. Again, the visible path of the beam cuts through the darkness of the background.

Spotlights shine down from above, again with visible beams of light. On the left and right of the images you can see a bit of the two guitar players, but only a partial shot and out of focus. They frame the center of the image, which has a drumkit glittering in the spotlights and the drummer behind it, looking off to the right of the frame with his drumsticks raised. He's wearing a predominantly white stripey shirt, which intersects and contrasts with the predominantly black stripey background behind him.

My brother and several of his band mates are staying at the house over Easter so I went a lil overboard on catering. Tomato, jalapeno, and jalapeno+avocado salsas. Plus quick pickle cabbage, carne asada charro beans, cornbread, homemade tortillas, and 6 hour slow cooked beef cheek barbacoa. 🤤👩‍🍳🤌

Ilford FP4+, Mercer Bay loop track. I'm a big fan of the amount of drama in this one. Tricky to balance maintaining detail in both the bright sky and dark cliffs, but I think it worked out! #photography #ilfordfp4

A photo of a large slightly craggy cliff face, it climbs from the very bottom of the image at around the left third to almost the very top right, and is very dark but still bright enough to have visible texture. The remaining bottom two thirds of the image are a medium gray ocean with lots of long white surf rolling in rightwards towards the base of the cliff. The remaining area is the sky, which is well defined and separated from the clouds, but fades into haze near the horizon.

A classic Calvin and Hobbes strip by Bill Watterson, which starts with Calvin saying: "Hey Dad, I'm doing a traffic safety poster. Do you have any ideas for a slogan?"

Calvin's dad, who is putting on his bike helmet, about to go for a ride, says: "Sure. 'Cyclists have a right to the road too, you noisy, polluting, inconsiderate maniacs! I hope gas goes up to eight bucks a gallon!'"

Calvin replies "Thanks, Dad. I'll go ask Mom".... while off-screen, his dad asks "Why? That's a GREAT slogan!"

First time shooting slide film, got some barely expired Fujifilm veliva for a good price, so loaded it in the Rolleicord and took it up around the Mercer Bay Loop track to make the most of it! #photography #analogphotography

Another vista, this time a v shaped foreground lies in the bottom third of the image, largely in shadow, with the silhouette of a tree above it on the left third. In the middle of the v, a toetoe flower catches the light, immediately above it is lion rock. The top third o the image is a cloudy sky, the middle third shows the town of piha nestled around the beach and lion rock, with hills nestled around it and extending off towards the horizon.

Freyja is currently annoyed because the jellybeans sound like someone placing cat treats into a bowl but yet they do not smell like cat treats.

Going out on Valentine's can be hectic so instead ate at home this year. For starters, Julia Child's french onion soup, followed by steak au poivre, Robuchon's mashed potato recipe, and a nice fresh summery salad.

Chappell Roan's set at laneway was beyond spectacular. They built her a castle! The choreography, the band, all of it was just flawless. 10/10.

It's also downright nice as a lens outside of being a zoom, which is special. It handles contrast and colors wonderfully, and to use the cliche — it has a painterly rendering quality. It's very crisp when in focus, but on the areas you miss focus on (or can't fit in focus) it handles that gracefully

I got a new lens! My first (nice) zoom, it's even free of fungus! Luxury. It's been really nice already being able to reframe how much of the scene I want in the final image, which I think has allowed me to get more creative with framing subjects I couldn't physically move further from or closer to.

A deep blue sky lies above a yellow brick wall, cutting up at an angle from just above the bottom left corner of the frame to the lower right third of the right edge. A white piece of siding sits between the yellow and blue. About four fifths of the way along the frame, there's a white ladder going up the side of the wall. Two handrails are part of the ladder, extending from it, and stick up above the level of the wall, reaching into the sky. They almost look like the ladder and handrail combo you could find on the edge of a pool.

I also like these two pigeons being very confused by the random sparrow that was chilling in the tree with them. I missed focus a bit on the first image but I think the indignation of the pigeon on the left really still comes through.
