What will I see at the Kauai Museum? You will discover many of the traditions that helped make Kauai what it is today. That includes the cowboy culture of the Hawaiian Islands. The Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) culture began soon after the first horses were brought to the Hawaiian Islands in 1793.

Taking a look back to our trip to Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming. We visited the first National Monument (established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906) in 2019. Devils Tower is a marvelous site. We were impressed from the moment we crested a hill and first witnessed the mount.

One of our stops during our US Ghost Adventures tour of San Jose led us here. Back in the day, this area of town was a red-light district. Which meant there are lots of tawdry tales. We also learned of one bellicose ghost who still haunts this building today. It's seems he's itching to pick a fight.

During our US Ghost Adventures tour in San Jose, we stopped at the San Jose Improv Theater. While our guide told stories of a theater fire, my son leaned over and asked if I saw something in the upper left hand window. He swears he saw movement in the window.

Climb inside a wagon? You don't need to ask us twice. While at Four Mile Historic Park we came upon this covered wagon. The kids immediately climbed inside to look around. It had the accouterments those who drove those wagons across the Plains and mountains of Colorado would store for the trip.

At the Four Mile Historic Park in Denver, we discovered this trapper's cabin. Colorado in the 1800s was a rough, sometimes wild place. But, it was also a potentially lucrative place for mountain men seeking a fortune. The cabin gave us a little insight into what their lives looked like.

When we entered the Omega Mart in Las Vegas, we knew we had crossed over to an unusual experience. The extraterrestrial supermarket was stocked with strange canned food items. But when we reached the meat counter, we were nonplussed. Does anyone want a helping of brains at your BBQ?

This week I published a new post "Omega Mart: An Otherworldly Art Exihibit in Las Vegas." Omega Mart is a Meow Wolf art gallery. We found the extraterrestrial supermarket in the Area 15 complex. Before we got to Omega Mart, we knew from the sculptures outside we were in for something unforgettable.

Some of the trees you discover in the Africa and Madagascar sections of the Koko Crater Botanical Garden on Oahu. There is a 2-mile circular path through the gardens. It is an easy walking path, with some small inclines. It was fascinating to see so many unusual species of plants.

Koko Crater Botanical Garden rests in a volcanic crater. The garden was set aside for development in 1958. It preserves rare, endangered dryland plants from around the world. Here are more photos from the Americas Garden, including a look upward to Koko Head.

Koko Crater Botanical Garden on Oahu does have a grove of plumeria (like those we showed you in the previous post). However, the garden is better known for its cacti and succulent gardens. It is quite unexpected to see these cacti thriving in a tropical climate in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

A few pictures from the Topeka Scarecrow's hockey game we recently attended.The Scarecrows matched up against the Monroe Moccasins. The home team Scarecrows lost this night. But, their goalie was sensational. It was great to see the match as a family and support a minor league hockey club.

Snow leopard at Hogle Zoo. I published a new article today about our trip last winter to Salt Lake City's Hogle Zoo. You can read the article on our website. My daughter and I visited Salt Lake City last year to see her favorite musical. Here's one of the zoo's two juvenile snow leopards.

One of the things I most enjoyed about our time at the park site was discovering all of the foliage. I anticipated seeing a harsh, monotone landscape. But there is a lot more to the park. This picture was taken just outside the Thurston Lava Tubes, an area replete with jungle foliage.

We discovered many Ohi'a trees at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. There also is a Hawaiian legend about the Ohi'a tree. A young warrior, Ohi'a, who drew the notice of the Hawaiian fire goddess, Pele. Ohi'a resisted Pele's advances because he was besotted by the beautiful maiden, Lehua.
