Really light week on @listenbrainz.org, but I was really happy to finally hear that Jimmy McGriff record, and pleasantly surprised by Tears for Fears. I haven't seriously listened to their music, but the full-length version of Shout is really great. #listenbrainztuesday

My @listenbrainz.org stats for last week. I didn't realize that I'd listened to that Jacques Tati compilation as much as I did, but I feel good about it. New Jalen Ngonda is throwback soul heaven, and I really dug the Quelle Chris album (I have no idea if that's even a popular take at this point).

It's a proud Bluesky tradition to read everything in the least charitable way possible. This is an unusually pure example (although, to their credit, *some* people seem to get it).

Natalie Merchant's latest album is characteristically excellent (her hits are actually some of the best singles of the 90's to me) and the Bar-Kay's album is just instrumental Stax soul bliss. Because of how @listenbrainz.org stats seem to work, I'm moving this to #listenbrainztuesday.

Obviously @listenbrainz.org tells me I was on my modern jazz shit this week. I judged that Brandee record too harshly (it's better on headphones). Theon Cross is jazz tuba; that record goes incredibly hard. Evil Empire is the best RATM album and has aged shockingly well. #listenbrainzmonday

I forgot to post earlier for #listenbrainzmonday. Happy to hear Mofro again, even though this is far and away their weakest album. I might have misjudged the Brandee record; I listened on headphones and liked it a lot more. Maggot Brain is my pick for the greatest guitar song of all time.

Commitment were definitely a find this week; Philly hardcore with passion and, well, commitment. The rest is pretty typical for me, but I need to point out: Weasels Ripped My Flesh is a damned peculiar record and time hasn't really softened that. @listenbrainz.org #listenbrainzmonday
