Does anyone know if it is legal for councils in AoNz to put a new pedestrian crossing across the top of an intersection of a side street?

This really annoys me and is not the first time they have parked here. They built these houses so, firstly, they should know this is a pedestrian path and no parking, and secondly, they could have designed parking or a loading zone if they want to be able to park near the units.

The areas around the core routes (blue; 7.5 mins) and frequent routes (purple; 15mins) as well as close to the city center, are the best places for upzoning. While most households have a car, a good network serves those who can't drive as well as allowing many households to drive less. 6/8

I have left all the current frequent routes with a frequency of every 15 mins. These routes cover lots of the city, and while not everyone can live close to a 15 min bus route (without a massive increase in investment), most of the city is still fairly close to one. 5/8

The core routes would all split to cover a larger area and allow more people a single seat trip to town. At the end, each route would run every half hour where it goes through low density areas far out from town- similar to many of the current routes- but as they join up they will be more frequent.

Central to the design are these three rapid bus corridors with buses every 7.5 mins or more. Ideally they would be mostly in bus lanes and separated from other traffic, so the buses would be fast and reliable. With higher frequencies it will also be easier to change buses to another core route. 3/8

Transport planning should go hand in hand with urban development. I've tried to balance where people currently live and work, with the best places for growth while also considering equity. This is just rough and the exact routes should be carefully done while considering local communities. 2/8

With the Ōtautahi metro bus system review happening, I have been thinking about how our network could be re-designed. My main aims were speeding up trips, increasing the frequency, and improving access across the city. I've based it on our current system and rough number of buses. 1/8

I can't stop thinking about the wild and cruel announcement from the government forcing councils to make rapid decisions on amalgamation. 1/x

Wishing again that we had a nationalised regional transport authority with intercity trains (and buses) across the country.

I'd love to take risks with decorating and pay someone to paint my house a fun colour and buy bright curtains, knowing I would be able to change them if I didn't like them or got bored.

Ideally, one day we will have protected bike lanes the whole way up Madras (and down Barbadoes), but until then I would be happy with the small fix for those two blocks.

We've spent hundreds of millions on the new stadium and fixing the roads around it. This would be a fraction of a percent to make the most convenient route home safer for thousands of people. 5/6

The thing is, there is an easy and cheap fix to this. The parking lanes are currently extra wide, and if the lines are just painted a couple feet to the right, there is space for a cycling lane, without getting rid of any parking. 4/6

1) Braving cycling on the road with the risk of being doored or hit by speeding cars; 2) Illegally riding on the pavement; or 3) Taking a 500m detour via Manchester and two sets of traffic lights that take two phases to turn right on. 3/6

If you live within 5km of Te Kaha, the fastest way to get door-to-door is likely to be on a bike. For those in Edgeware and the north of the city, there is a super convenient route* 3km route straight down Barbadoes Street. 1/6 (see * in post 6)

I have come to see the error of my ways and have included Aotearoa New Zealand this time. I love food and talking about food. Lines on a map is dangerous when considering culture so the lines are rough, and this is just a conversation starter about tastes. AoNZ cuisine is its own topic for later.
