e-scooters are used by thousands of people to get around safely within the existing rules. Banning them instead of enforcing existing laws is a lazy response from the Taoiseach and will disproportionately affect people working low paid jobs and experiencing transport poverty.
399 cost rental homes and 326 social homes under construction in Ashtown. Now the bad news. There are huge viability issues with new cost rental schemes like this that need to be addressed. A few months ago, a cost rental housing development in Cabra fell through just before construction started.

e-scooters marketed at 6 year olds? No thanks! We need to tackle illegal e-scooters at the point of sale instead of trying to play catch-up once they're on the road. The law says it's illegal for anyone under 16 to use them on public roads and that they should be limited to 20km/h.
This is one of my biggest bugbears on the Council. While local authorities outside Dublin get up to €78m for road maintenance in a year, Dublin City only gets €40,000 for training. This is why our roads and footpaths are awful.

Apartments or aparthotels? So many sites in Dublin end up as hotels or aparthotels at a time when there's limited land available in the city and we badly need more housing. That's why the Greens on Dublin City Council proposed and successfully doubled the levy charged on new hotels in the city.
It focuses on the external appearance and detracting from the character of the area. A lick of paint on the exterior can keep most derelict buildings off the Derelict Sites Register while it rots internally.
The No.1 thing the government could do to help with dereliction is to change the legal definition of dereliction. What you and I might consider derelict is often not legally considered derelict.

Almost 1 in 10 clamps placed by Dublin City Council are illegally removed. We have a huge problem with illegal parking in Dublin that causes issues for people with disabilities and vulnerable road users. We need culture change and we need better and more effective enforcement.

Having a Luas stop outside is a massive opportunity, not a catastrophe. Public representatives should focus on the fact that the government has shelved this shovel ready project until 2029. That's the real catastrophe.
Or, you know, to stop the rampant red light breaking that's going on. Stop asking car industry lobbyists about road safety.
Our high energy prices are set by our high dependence on imported fossil fuels. The only way to reduce energy prices is by investing in more renewables. Lower prices, more energy security, more peace. Win win win.
Unfortunately, it can't proceed right away because the government isn't funding Luas Finglas until 2029. It's good that there's no judicial review but it'll have no effect on the timeline because of the government's decision.

25+ years derelict. In Dublin City Council ownership since 2019. No funding from the Department of Housing to rebuild. The two derelict houses on 19 & 21 Connaught Street have been abandoned by the state. They're now structurally compromised and a risk to the neighbouring houses on the terrace.
Facts matter. Quoting a worst case scenario figure as the estimated cost for a project is incredibly damaging for such a vital project. I'm glad they took my letter though!
