On a recent night navigation session we attempted to locate the boulder field. We were confident that we had navigated to the correct place but there weren't any boulders! The video in the comments explains what was wrong.

We were having a great day practising navigation skills on Kinder. We successfully located the large boulders only to find that someone had thought it ok to leave all their rubbish behind. At least they were considerate enough to put it all in a carrier bag for someone else to deal with 🤬

We did this on a group night navigation course a few years ago (before the map updated showing paths) Video in the comments explains how we got from A to B in the dark and the strategies we used.
Paper maps are great but they can soon go out of date. With online subscriptions you always have the most up to date version. Here's a good example of when online maps are better. Route choice from A to B would be much easier with the updated map! #mapreading

Maps on your phone are fine but they don't make it easy to look at the bigger picture. Today we used the full Dark Peak map in order to identify features on the other side of the valley. #mapreading
A catching feature is something that stops you from going too far past your intended target. E.g. here if you missed the ruin in the fog there are 3 landscape features that would tell you you'd gone too far - that's not including the Llyn! The video in the comments explains things.
