NEW: Politico knew at the time of publication precisely what Jenny Racicot texted to Graham Platner but deliberately omitted it from their article. Racicot, according to the lead Politico reporter on the story, told Platner she "needed her glute massaged." He told her he was coming right over; she responded by telling him not to do so, but he came over quickly.
Whether this detail is important to you or not, it is a shocking breach of journalistic ethics by Politico and CNN not to include it in their coverage.

Lefebvre was a fervent supporter of Marshal Philippe Pétain, who, as head of the collaborationist Vichy regime under the Nazi occupation, contributed to the deportation of some 75,000 Jews from France to Auschwitz and other death camps. Of the liberation of France, Lefebvre wrote, “we witnessed the victory of Freemasonry against Pétain’s Catholic order” — a reference to a long-standing far-right conspiracy theory that casts secular republicanism, liberalism and Jewish influence as part of a Masonic plot against the Catholic Church.

Decades on, he was still leading pilgrimages to Pétain’s grave, declaring that the man convicted of treason for collaborating with Nazi Germany had “restored [France] spiritually and morally” and telling followers he believed Pétain was in heaven. “Long live Marshal Pétain!” he concluded. “Long live France!”

Then there is Paul Touvier. A Vichy militia chief convicted for ordering the 1944 execution of seven Jewish hostages, Touvier spent 16 years hidden in SSPX priories before his 1989 arrest in Nice. The society’s explanation for sheltering a man who murdered Jews on Nazi orders was that it had acted out of “charity to a homeless man.” When Touvier, sentenced to life imprisonment, died in 1996, an SSPX priest performed the funeral rites.

In 1991, Lefebvre himself was convicted of fostering race hatred for declaring that Muslims “cannot be truly French” and asserting that, as a result of migration, “your daughters, your wives, your children will be kidnapped and taken to segregated neighborhoods like those that exist in Casablanca.”
Then there is the question of Holocaust denial — not a rogue element but a recurring feature of the SSPX. In 1989, Bishop Richard Williamson, one of Lefebvre’s original four and then rector of the SSPX’s main North American seminary in Wisconsin, claimed that no more than 300,000 Jews died in concentration camps, and declared that “there was not one Jew killed in the gas chambers. It was all lies, lies, lies.”
He was expelled from the SSPX in 2012, ostensibly for lacking “respect and obedience.” Williamson went on to found the breakaway SSPX Resistance. In a 2020 sermon, he blamed Jewish people for the COVID-19 pandemic and accused them of manipulating the stock market in an effort to spark a war, calling them “master servants of the devil.”

Williamson was not alone: Bernard Tissier de Mallerais, a fellow 1988 bishop, wrote in 1997 that Jews were “the most active partisans for the coming of the Antichrist.” The group’s leaders called all this a distortion of the SSPX’s true position, even as its own archived publications trafficked in the same material for years, quietly scrubbed only after journalists started asking questions.

Lefebvre would go on to endorse the far-right National Front’s Jean-Marie Le Pen, and maintained vocal admiration for authoritarian regimes from Franco’s Spain (which he called “the ideal of the state”) to Pinochet’s Chile, lamenting that “as soon as a man rises up to save his country from communism and restores Christian order, everything is done to discredit him.”

In France, the SSPX’s political bloodline runs, to this day, through Civitas, a group that embraces integralism — the belief that Catholic values should guide government policies. Dissolved by the French state in 2023 on account of its antisemitism, the organization was steeped in the same pro-Vichy thinking that shaped Lefebvre in the first place.

My partner uses several unhinged pronunciations as an inside joke (e.g., coffee ➡️ coffo), but “dewy” would be beyond the pale. Also everyone knows it’s The Train. The only people who need to specify which train are the radio and tv traffic reporters, to differentiate it from Metro-North, etc.

Doug Pearsall, 65, the owner of Eastern Front Brewing Co., in Mattituck on Long Island’s North Fork, who can see an L.I.R.R. train station through the front door of his business, said he didn’t agree with any of the pronunciations.

“We all just call it The Train,” he said. “It’s just the way to get into the city. Or the way to drink on the way to Greenport, so you don’t get a D.U.I.”

That last word he pronounced dewy.

So next time, ask yourself, "Self, if I were a white nationalist failchild with megalomaniacal tendencies and skin thinner than graphene, what would I believe, say, or do?"

WASHINGTON - "Mass deportation now!" is a catchphrase for the Trump presidential campaign, as the Republican nominee proposes a crackdown on immigration that would oust thousands of undocumented people.
Often citing a deportation operation enacted by former President Dwight Eisenhower in the 1950s, former President Donald Trump has repeatedly vowed in campaign rallies that he plans to not only go back to the tough immigration policies of his first term in office, but expand them greatly.
"We're going to have the largest deportation," Trump said at a June campaign rally in Racine, Wisconsin.
"We have no choice."

The crowd responded with a chant: “Send them back. Send them back. Send them back.”

Mass deportation would be a broad, multipronged effort under Trump’s vision. The plan includes invoking an 18th-century law; reshuffling law enforcement at federal agencies; transferring funds within programs in the Department of Homeland Security; and forcing greater enforcement of immigration laws.

However, since President Joe Biden signed a recent executive order, border crossings have fallen to their lowest level since he took office.

How does the public feel?
Polls have found Americans are split on the idea of mass deportations but Republicans are more supportive.

A recent CBS News poll that found nearly 6 in 10 voters favor a new government agency that would deport all undocumented immigrants. Of those voters, one-third were Democrats and 9 in 10 were Republicans.

The Trump campaign did not respond to multiple requests from States Newsroom for comment on the specifics of how a second Trump administration would plan to carry out mass deportations.

The massive deportation campaign that Trump often cites in his campaign rallies was conducted under the Eisenhower administration in the summer of 1954, with a pejorative, racist name attached to it.

“Following the Eisenhower model, we will carry out the largest domestic deportation operation in American history,” Trump said at a September rally last year in Ankeny, Iowa.

But what the Trump campaign is proposing is not an Eisenhower-style crackdown, said Michael Clemens, a professor in the Department of Economics at George Mason University.

“That policy was instituted hand-in-hand with a crucial other arm of the policy,” he said — which was that lawful work pathways for Mexicans to the U.S. were nearly tripled at the same time as the mass deportations.

The property falls within the boundaries of the city of Socorro.

El Paso is a strategic location for the Trump administration because of Biggs Army Airfield, where deportation flights have increasingly taken place.

More than 1,130 immigration enforcement departure flights, including removal and shuffle flights, took place in El Paso all of last year, according to the Human Rights First immigration flight monitor. Only Alexandria, Louisiana, and Harlingen, Texas, recorded more flights – about 2,430 and 2,430, respectively. Shuffle flights refer to those between detention facilities. El Paso was also among the top three immigration enforcement destination cities last year, recording more than 1,030 arrivals.

The detention expansion comes as calls grow louder for the closure of Camp East Montana – a tent complex that opened on Fort Bliss property in El Paso in August. The facility has been inundated with allegations of human rights violations, and has recorded three detainee deaths in two months. The facility holds the largest number of ICE detainees in the nation, averaging nearly 3,000 a day as of January. About 70,780 people were being held in ICE detention centers nationwide – about 18,700 in Texas alone.

Hall is with Indivisible the 915, a grassroots group that has been leading protests and vigils against the controversial immigration enforcement and setting up campaigns for residents to call and write lawmakers at every level.

Ruben Garcia, founder and executive director of the Annunciation House network of migrant shelters, said he applauds the local government’s response and people being vocal about their stance. But he warns that even if the Trump administration decided not to open the facility in El Paso, it would do so elsewhere.

In combination with information regarding circumstances of which we were recently informed, our contract with you as Chief Conductor will conclude as of the close of the final performance of Tosca on Friday, August 24, 2012.
The date of any and all public announcements of your resignation will be determined solely by the Opera.
We will pay lees due through the end of the Opera's fiscal year, which is September 30, 2012. All amounts will be included in the check due to you on August 30, 2012, at which point there will be no further obligation from either party.
