Ten minutes of intense rain and hail following an hours worth of thunder. All gone now and cleared skies.

In the full ground is a patio with two dog bowls, after that is a grass area with hail

The main focus of the picture are three large hailstones picked up and held in a left hand.

Today has been VE Day Rando, 9km with the two dogs through the local Countryside. The energetic had a 10km or 20km run if they wanted.

Shed update: as biblical Rain has stopped we have been able to start getting the lower under tiles a noses on today. 27 done, 53 needed on each side. Will complete the work on the neighbours side first, then can be out of her garden.

Under tiles extending out then first over tiles fitted and cemented in.

#Shed #Rebuild #Update So progress has been quick stripping the roof back on one side. New framing has been added & new volige boards which the tiles will sit on also giving a solid base to work from. Two snakes 🐍 and a lot of ants evicted. 1300 tiles selected, loaded and unloaded today.

Barn roof stripped and work done to brace the sleepers in place.
The roof is missing the nearest side of the barn and internal timbers are exposed.

New wood added to support the roof as well as a wall plate.

Volige boards nailed to the chevrons. These boards will support the tiles which will sit on top
Of a layer of mineral felt.
Now time to attack the other side.

1300 reclaimed over canal tiles hand sorted and ready to be played for the new roof. Will be using new under tiles and then these as overs, giving it a not new look. Also significant cost savings.

Good morning all. After a couple of hectic days where have been stripping back this roof, today is one of rest and tidy up. Adventures will commence again on Monday. Only came across one snake so far. Roof will be fully replaced and will have tiles at the end of the project.

Wooden barn with digger. Digger was used to clear brambles

Concrete rabbit cages. Typically used for breeding for meat. These have been demolished.

Undgrowth has been tamed and shed reclaimed.

Bitumen type roof tiles have melted over the years and rotted through the roof.

Today has been busy. Local brocante this morning where I picked up a kitsch Sanglier terine dish. Then picked up a sideboard for a friend before going to a “ Chateaux en fete” near chez moi with friends. Very pleasant.

Will be doing a bit more on the carport build today within the Sunday noise hours and then have a leg of lamb to slowly cook and consume! 😁

Today’s Brocante find is this fantastic bell which will be mounted outside the back door and can be heard across our fields at the back.

Brass bell on iron frame which will be mounted in the wall out the back door.
The bell assembly is on the wooden kitchen table.

Yesterday was a good day. Three local Christmas markets, small but a good variety. Ended up in Brantome and at lunchtime. Sat on benches outside, glass of wine and omelette with cepes, fois gras and truffle, a small side salad with walnuts and vinaigrette.

Brantome Christmas market. Clear blue skies frame the abbey and in the smaller market square the stalls. In front of them are the tables for lunch. Available were wraps, omelette or oysters.

Today I will be helping friend repair the telescopic we bought recently, where the seller was rather economic with the truth!! Need to get a good shop in as well. Then in the afternoon will go to the near village and have apero in the newly opened bar and restaurant.

A large all wheel drive machine which can lift with forks or a bucket up to 11m high. It is standing in a paddock with a hedge at the back.
The engine cover is open and a man is looking inside.
We are trying to fix the bag of nails we bought recently Grrrrrrr

Today has been the last day of our honeymoon to #Maroc , where we stayed in Marrakesh. Such a vibrant city and am sure just our first visit to this country. The friendliness is so welcoming. Have already spoken to my plasterer with ideas on decorating doors in this fashion 🤣😂 back in Dordogne!!

Looking up at an archway with the most exquisite plasterwork and decorative patterns. Ornate roof panels adorn this tomb of Saadin . The artistry is amazing

A view of the internal stone walls of the Palace of El Badia. The tress visible are orange trees in a sunken garden and the areas visible is not even one quarter of the garden. The internal gardens are normally laid out in 4 quadrants.

Ornate door in the Palace Bahia. The tiles are all individual and stuck to make the repeating geometric patterns. Then there are plaster decorations as well to further embellish the openings.

Today I have tried preserving some of the pears crop from our garden. All being well the Pears in Calvados will be great at Christmas 🤞🤞
