Gustopher is showing off his new shirt to his friends. It has a big smiling face that's supposed to glow in the dark. Its eyes stare into your soul and the knowing smile reflects the terrible terrible secrets that it's learning about about you.

Gustopher: Check out my new shirt. It glows in the dark.

Panel 2

Gustopher and his friends have moved to the bathroom so they can turn off the lights and get a proper look at the shirt in the dark. The shirt continues to smile, it mocks the tragedy of the world with its perpetual grin.

Hannah: Is it bright?

Gustopher: Let's find out?

Panel 3

The lights are off. Everyone looks down at the shirt so they might witness its brilliant glow. It is glowing, but it's faint and hard to see. The shirt continues to smile. It has witnessed the secrets of the universe and must smile to hide its sorrow.

Panel 4

Liam: Is it doing anything?

Gustopher: Just ruining my day.

The shirt is satisfied with this series of events. Every disappointed child is one step closer to the glowpocolypse. The shirt smiles at the thought of that glorious day of glowmageddon.

Monroe - Alligator - The oldest of five siblings. She's a loner, which is incredibly difficult when you have five siblings.

Lincoln - Alligator - The second oldest. He's both grumpier and more responsible compared to others his age.

Kennedy - The middle child. She exists

Grant - The second youngest. He's 98% energy and 2% Focus.

Jackie - The youngest in her family. She's really happy to be there and would like to bite a lot of things.

Panel 1

Several siblings are chilling and doing their best to keep themselves occupied. Lincoln is reading a book, Monroe is on her phone, and Jackie is happily sitting on the couch and is happily contemplating the frightening natures of existence. Lincoln is getting frustrated with his book, A Song of Pies in Fire.

Lincoln: This book has too many characters.

Monroe: Is that bad?

Panel 2

Kennedy random appears to offer her input.

Kennedy: It makes the plot hard to follow.

Lincoln: Especially when new characters keep popping up.

Jackie eyes Lincoln's book.

Lincoln: It's worse when they all have weird catchphrases.

Grant pops out behind the couch to yell something.

Grant: IT'S CHOMP O'CLOCK!

Seth has arrived at August's house. Neither of them have to worry about taking care of the kids tonight so they've decided to have a BOY'S NIGHT! They both have a drink mysteriously called "Drink Pun".

Seth: BOY'S NIGHT!

They've decided to relax a little before going out. Seth immediately starts looking for something to watch.

Seth: Let's start with a movie and pizza.

It's well known that if you don't know what to say on a Boy's Night, you just yell, "BOY'S NIGHT!"

Seth remembers something important.

Seth: Oh, no pepperoni. My heartburn has been awful.

August: Same.

I can assure you that they will both still have heartburn.

Seth and August on the couch with the movine playing. August's cats have curled up on their blanket covered laps. Nougat watches the movie with great interest and Mewbert just immediately goes to sleep.

Timmy Fowlon: It's the founding members of Fork Fight! Kyle and Kyle!

Shirtless Kyle: YEAH!

Kyle and Kyle walk out on stage. Kyle, as usual, is not wearing a shirt and the other Kyle, as usual, looks like he doesn't want to be there. He's wearing a shirt that promotes their new album "Spoon Scuffle".

Panel 2

Kyle and Kyle take their seats and are ready for the interview. Timmy Fowlon jumps right into it.

Timmy Fowlon: You formed your band in high school. How did you two become friends?

Panel 3

Shirtless Kyle and Shirt Kyle give each other a meaningful glance. One of those glances that immediately transfers a lot of information between the two of them. A lot more information than is necessary in this moment. They'll be getting tacos after the interview is done.

Shirtless Kyle and Shirt Kyle set the record straight.

Kyle: We're not friends.

Kyle: I hate this guy.

Fork Fight has just finished playing a gig. Terry is loading the last piece of equipment into the van and asking everyone what they want to do for dinner.

Terry: Van is packed! Where are we getting dinner?

Shirtless Kyle: WAFFLE PLACE!

The rest of the band is not enthusiastic about going to Waffle Place again but arguing with Shirtless Kyle usually doesn't end well. Especially when he's yelling and waving his arms around.

Shirt Kyle: Again? It's trash.

Shirtless Kyle: IT'S TRADITION!

Hans: Fine... Let's go.

Panel 3

Everyone is at Waffle place. There's a big silly waffle mascot with a big silly waffle grin on the wall saying "LET'S WAFFLE". There are disturbing implications about a sentient waffle being happy about people eating waffles. Everyone's food just looks like a big gray mess. No one looks happy. Shirt Kyle stares off into space and imagines all the other places he could be right now. Him being right about this place does not bring satisfiction when he still has to endure the awful food.

Panel 4

Despite being the one who wanted to come here, Shirtless Kyle says what's on everyone's mind.

Shirtless Kyle: This place is awful! Why do we keep coming here?

This will not be their last time going to Waffle Place.

Fork Fight has a gig and they're bringing all their stuff to the stage. Terry is carrying a box that says "Property of Fork Fight" and Kyle has one that says "Music Stuff". It's all very important stuff that bands need. Like, thousands of guitar picks. I'm pretty sure it's mostly guitar picks.

Terry: When I was little, my brother and I would pretend to be in a band.

Shirt Kyle: Hm.

Shirt Kyle is completely uninterested.

Panel 2

Terry ignores the disinterest and continues on about his adventures with his big brother.

Terry: We'd pretend to travel all over and solve mysteries. Being in a real band is pretty different.

Panel 3

Shirtless Kyle has no time for these fuzzy childhood memories. He has a big problem and needs answers now! He climbs on the box Terry just brought in to yell at him. There is a poster in the background for the venue. It's called "The Noise Pit" and the poster advertises drinks, music, and hearing loss.

Shirtless Kyle: Solve the mystery of who ate my burrito!

Terry: You did. Five minutes ago.

Panel 4

Shirtless Kyle is awestruck. He did eat it didn't he? Maybe his doctor was right about the sleep deprivation.

Shirtless Kyle: WHOA! I thought that was a dream.

Terry: Reality is often disappointing.

Terry stares in the distance and remembers the games he used to play with his brother. Being in a band looks a lot more glamorous before you're actually in a band.

Hannah would like some gum which fills Olivia with an immense amount of joy.

Olivia: Cool. -snort- Here's your GUM.

Olivia holds out an innocent looking stick of gum. It surely must be gum. Olivia just said it is.

Hannah reaches towards the gum while Olivia seems to be growing increasingly excited about Hannah finally having some gum. This must be some pretty good gum or else Olivia wouldn't be so excited. There couldn't possibly be any other motives behind this.

Daryl is buttoning up his shirt in the master bedroom. A picture of a forest scene that their daughter painted is on the wall above a dresser. Seth has a brilliant idea that Daryl is not going to find brilliant.

Seth: Want to hit the beach today?

Daryl: No, I hate the beach.

It's mainly because of the sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and gets everywhere.

Panel 2

Seth doesn't really have any qualms with this but feels like teasing his husband a little. Seth makes the cutest face he thinks he's capable of making and pursues to the topic further.

Seth: You won't go for your beloved husband who loves you?

Daryl: I won't go for anyone.

Panel 3

Hannah suddenly enters and she also has a brilliant idea.

Hannah: DAD! PAPA! Can we go to the beach?

Panel 4

Seth, Daryl, and Hannah have arrived at the beach. Daryl has set up a blanket that he hopes will act as a decent barrier between himself and the sand. Hannah is rushing to the sand with a shovel, a bucket, and sand castle ambitions. Seth had a feeling that things would turn out this way but teases Daryl a little more.

Seth: I thought you wouldn't go for anyone.

Daryl: She's more important than anyone.

Gustopher is shocked that there are people in the world who can't enjoy dairy. He his hand tilts the plate even further causing the slice of pizza to start to slip off.

Douglas: Any of that would make me sick.

Gustopher has gone off to sit on a stump to process this information. He hold his hands together under his chin to contemplate all this. He's learning a lot about the world today.

Liam: I'll tell you about the problems of the people and you solve them

Ember: GOT IT!

Ember has taken the throne which just happens to be a recliner. All thrones should be recliners. Liam approaches her with the first problem to solve and she responds like a queen associated with hearts in a land of wonder.

Gustopher and his dad are looking through some old boxes. The cats are helping. This help is mostly just them getting in and out of boxes. It's a good thing they are there or no one would be going in and out of the boxes. Gustopher has found an interesting looking cartridge.

Gustopher: I haven't seen this game before.

August takes a look at the game and is hit by a wave of nostalgia.

August: I used to play it all the time.

Panel 3

August inserts the cartridge into some sort of video game console that is definitely official hardweare for this specific cartridge and not something made by a third party. Otherwise it would void the warranty for this game that's well over two decades old.

August: The graphics are super realistic. Check it out.

Daryl is in his backyard for a little get together with his friends and family. He's watching his husband, Seth, talk to August. Daryl begins to contemplate where he is in life.

Daryl (thinking): It hurts when the people who are supposed to love you the most reject the most important people in your life.

Panel 2

Daryl turns to see his daughter, Hannah, playing with her friends Liam, Gustopher, and Olivia. Gustopher is holding a ball above his head and Hannah looks like she's trying to get it from him. Olivia also appears to making a motion to grab the ball.

Daryl (thinking): I thought I'd lose everything without my parent's approval. I thought I wouldn't have a family anymore.

Panel 3

Daryl's brother, Terry, has wandered over to show Daryl the new design he made for his band's merch. He has a tank top on with the word "FORK" on top of a giant fork. Terry is very proud of this. Graphic design is his passion.

Daryl (thinking): That's not what happened. I still have my brother. I'm a husband and a father. I'm finally making friends.

Hannah is playing some sort of fighting game when Daryl approaches to talk to her about something. Daryl has been having a rough time with his parents but it has reminded him of how important his daughter is to him and he wants Hannah to know that.

Daryl decides to just say what he wants to say without beating around the bush. He's not always direct about his emotions but this feels like a good time for it. His husband, Seth, watches from the doorway.

A rare smile come across Daryl's face. He loves his daughter more than anything and hopes that she understands how much he appreciates her.

Daryl: It's an honor being your Papa. Thank you for being my daughter.

Seth is moved by this whole scene.

Panel 4

Hannah is distracted because she's in an online match in her game and can't pause.

Hannah: Thanks, Papa. Could I get back to my game before I lose this match.

Daryl has said what he needed to say and sees this as a great opportunity to practice what he just said.

Daryl: I support that. Give them hell.

Seth - Otter - The assistant principal at his daughter's school. Used to taking charge but is capable of being silly. Daryl's husband and Hannah's dad.

Hannah - Goat - A highly competitive kid. She strives to be the best and to be helpful to others. Daryl and Seth's daughter.

Transcript

Panel 1

Seth is working at his computer when Daryl walks in. Daryl just finished a call with his father that did not go well. He lets Seth know how it went.

Daryl: My parents aren't coming to the party.

Seth: Babe, I'm sorry.

Panel 2

Daryl stands defiantly and feels determined not to let this bother him too much. He's gotten used to this sort of thing from his parents.

Daryl: It's fine. I was fine when they didn't come to our wedding. I'll be fine now.

Panel 3

Daryl loses some of the stiffness in his posture and looks to the ground. A tear starts to form in one of his eyes. He doesn't want this to get to him. Seth approaches him and puts a hand on his husband's arm.

Daryl: It's fine.

Panel 4

Seth hold on to one of Daryl's arms while Daryl wipes away a tear.

Daryl: It's not fine. I hate it.

When a program crashes and I lose what I just made.

Field is staring at a drawing tablet. They are despondent. Behind Field is two larger version of Field, one pink and one blue, who are crying. All aspects of Field are upset at the loss of five minutes of work. Really, the frustration is more with the loss of momentum. In the time I spent drawing this I probably could have redone what I lost five times over. Instead I wasted my time drawing this thing. Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? I could really use a wish right now. wish right now. wish right now.

Okay, I'm going back to drawing.

Panel 1

Daryl is outside and talking with his father over the phone. Daryl and his husband have been planning a little party with their closest friends and family to celebrate the day that they adopted their daughter. Daryl has decided to make an attempt to invite his parents although he's pretty sure they won't come.

Daryl: Hey Dad, we're having a party to celebrate the day Hannah joined our family. I'd love it if you and Mom came.

Ed: That'll be difficult.

Panel 2

Daryl knows at this point that his parents will not be coming. He hasn't even given them a date. He'll give it one last push but doesn't want to argue about it too much.

Daryl: Are you sure? You still haven't met your granddaughter.

Ed: It's not like she's really our granddaughter.

Panel 3

Upon hearing this, Daryl immediately says the first thing that comes to mind.

Daryl: Then I guess I'm not really your son!

Ed: That's not-

Daryl doesn't offer an opportunity for the sentence to be finished.

Daryl: Bye.

Panel 4

Daryl takes a moment to reflect on all this. He feels angry and hurt. Only one word comes to mind at the moment.

Daryl (thinking): Man...

Transcript

Panel 1

Gustopher has been visiting his Aunt but is now heading home. He sits in the passenger seat next to his dad and looks out the window. He sees someone flying a kite with a rainbow colored tail on the beach with a giant rock standing tall in the ocean. He takes in the scene. He doesn't know when he'll be back.

Panel 2

It's a little later in the day and now Gustopher is going by some farms. There's a field with something growing in it and a tractor nearby. It feels like an entirely different world compared to the coast.

Panel 3

The sun is setting and Gustopher and his dad are now making their way through the city. There's a billboard in the distance advertising "Diet Green Soda" with a someone who looks very happy to be drinking Diet Green Soda. They've picked up some fast food for dinner and Gustopher is eating a burger in the car. He has a drink in the door cupholder but it's not Diet Green Soda.

Panel 4

The sun as set as Gustopher and his dad enter their neighborhood. Gustopher has fallen asleep after eating his dinner. The sky is dark but it's early enough that the lights are still on in the houses that they're driving by. While the drive home was ultimately uneventful and even boring at times, there is something about it that feels special.

Transcript

Panel 1

Gustopher is still visiting his Aunt Julia and they're having dinner. It's some sort of soup. The standard food you have in a cabin in the woods. Everyone knows that soup tastes way better when you have it in a cabin in the woods.

Gustopher: Aunt Julia, what was Dad like as a kid?

Julia: He was the baby of the three of us.

Panel 2

Julia thinks back to her childhood with her big sister and little brother. Next to her is a drink that has the label "ALL HOPS" on it. It's primarily consumed people people in their late 30's and early 40's while listening to vinyl records.

Julia: He would do anything your Aunt June or I told him. One time we made him-

Panel 3

Julia suddenly stops talking and her eyes grow wide. It just now occurs to her that this is a good story be telling her nephew. What did she do? Seriously, I don't know. Julia! WHAT DID YOU DO TO AUGUST?

Panel 4

Gustopher would also like to know.

Gustopher: Made him what?

Julia: Nothing.

Gustopher: MADE HIM WHAT?

Julia: Let's have cake!

Gustopher will remember this.
