The Americans who’ve seen results in resistance Trump — from Minn. to Maine — have all operationalized the same principle: Make it cost them. Just as @andreapitzer.bsky.social has been saying for years on slowing camps. Like @chenoweth.bsky.social and @mariajstephan.bsky.social have long advised.
Wow! We made the NYT bestseller list for the second consecutive week. I am so gratified and moved that ON COURAGE is reaching people all over the country. I hope it gives you a little more strength to fight for justice and a heavy dose of inspiration. www.harpercollins.com/products/on-...
A word on Trump’s expected speech tonight. To successfully undermine U.S. elections, Trump is relying on the compliance of institutions. If he does what’s been reported, we can do something about that. Spread the word.

"They took him to an alleyway and beat him until he lost consciousness." When I read about the horrifying abuses at the hands of ICE agents, I'm reminded of this quote from our reporting in ON COURAGE, from the human rights statistician Patrick Ball. They will not be anonymous. We will find them.
Just because you aren't hearing about it doesn't mean that Stephen Miller's war on immigrant families isn't continuing apace. It is. Vegas, San Antonio, Chicago, and Milwaukee have all seen more detentions and traffic stops. Per NYT, daily arrests doubled in the last week of June and keep going up.
Much of our conversation with @hcrichardson.bsky.social about ON COURAGE came back to this: after talking to dissidents on five continents, we believe defeating authoritarianism begins by expanding your circle of commitment. Full “American Conversations” interview: www.youtube.com/live/NgpJUas...
ON COURAGE debuted at #12 on the New York Times bestseller list. Still can't believe it. Gratitude to everyone who's read the book and shared it + to the courageous people who trusted us with their stories. We will win our democracy back and build a world where all are treated with equal dignity.
It is not found in the expediency of abandoning core values. It is found by clutching tightly to those values as a lantern in the depths. That’s how we find each other and find the path. That’s how the light gets in.
ON COURAGE is an instant New York Times bestseller. I can’t believe it. Thank you to everyone who has read the book and to all who have shared it. Deep, deep gratitude to you, and to the courageous people around the world who trusted us with their stories.
To protect our democracy, we need to start by looking to other places where democracy has slipped.
“A book for this exact moment in time.” The great @jacobsoboroff.bsky.social did a fantastic segment on our new book, ON COURAGE. Grateful to Jacob and moved that people across the country are finding the book resonant. I hope it empowers those on the brink of taking action for our country.
One of many interesting parts of our great conversation yesterday with @djrothkopf.bsky.social: why many who've been traditionally successful in politics aren't equipped for this authoritarian moment. You can get the book, ON COURAGE, here: www.harpercollins.com/products/on-...
If I could offer just one piece of advice to everyone who objects to the corruption, roundups, attacks on the Constitution but isn’t sure where to start fighting back, it would be this: Find a political home. Lesson 5 in our series: How to Save the Free World ON COURAGE: wherever books are sold 🔗
It's launch day for ON COURAGE! Maddow: “INVALUABLE. A CLASSIC OF OUR TIME.” In the dark early days of Trump II, @juliaangwin.com and I were interviewing dissidents on 5 continents, learning what Americans could do to save our republic. Where books are sold: www.harpercollins.com/products/on-...

@jelaniya.bsky.social is one of America's sharpest chroniclers of race, power, and democracy. His work – always in conversation with history – has shaped national conversations about the fragility of US democracy, and what's possible if we get it right. Honored to share his words about ON COURAGE.
Senator Adam Schiff has chosen patriotic duty at great personal cost time and again, confronting abuses of power and defending our democratic institutions. We are deeply honored to share his words about our book:
The long-overdue first step to AI regulation: stop taking these guys at their word.
People have asked me whether it’s a bit dramatic to be writing a book about dissent in the United States of America. Here’s my answer.
🧵I used to work for the Mayor of Los Angeles. It's time to talk about Spencer Pratt – and people who participate in civic life only when their wealth is at risk 🧵🧵🧵 Let's start with a story.
