Signage: Discover the Secrets of Zula's Hollow
This unusual earthworks was built in 1839, after the church was rebuilt in 1834. The Hollow was designed by Rev. Basil Patras Zula, and built by local people. It's mounds and hills represent the Historic Battlefield of Thermopylae and it's topography as it was in 480 BCE.
The garden also includes some features not connected to the battle, like a fountain, Alpha and Omega flowerbeds and a summer house. This is one of most unique gardens

I unironically think that working with a dialect coach to invent a novel accent that sounds European without sounding like it comes from any particular country is a brave and creative thing to do.

The accent, we just made up, literally," said Damon, who worked with dialect coach Tim Monich. (Watch our interview with him above.) "We kind of thought, theoretically, what we needed, it couldn't be modern English. It had to be understandable. And then [Monich] made rules for it, the way he does for any dialect we're working on. So we
kind of cobbled it together that way."

He’s right! This is exactly word-for-word what I do when I’ve arrived somewhere new. Humboldt has captured something completely normal and universal here.

The Ong book is a lot of fun. I remember spending some time trying to figure out if one necessarily faces an injustice if speaking to a Corkman.

In oral cultures a request for information is commonly
interpreted interactively (Malinowski 1923, pp. 451, 470–81), as
agonistic, and, instead of being really answered, is frequently
parried. An illuminating story is told of a visitor in County Cork,
Ireland, an especially oral region in a country which in every
region preserves massive residual orality. The visitor saw a
Corkman leaning against the post office. He went up to him,
pounded with his hand on the post office wall next to the
Corkman’s shoulder, and asked, ‘Is this the post office?’ The
Corkman was not taken in. He looked at his questioner quietly
and with great concern: ‘’Twouldn’t be a postage stamp you were
lookin’ for, would it?’ He treated the enquiry not as a request for
information but as something the enquirer was doing to him. So he
did something in turn to the enquirer to see what would happen. All
natives of Cork, according to the mythology, treat all questions
this way. Always answer a question by asking another. Never let
down your oral guard.

Critical race theorist Khiara Bridges endorses a radical perspectivalism about truth:

CRT, like its Critical Legal Studies predecessor, has been heavily influenced by postmodernist and poststructuralist philosophy and literary criticism — which has been

identified with thinkers like Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Judith Butler, Julia Kristeva, and Jacques Lacan. One of the many ideas that postmodernism introduced was the possibility that there is no such thing as objective truth. Postmodernism proposes that truth is not a unitary thing that is “out there” and is entirely independent of context. Instead, it proposes that truth is contingent; it depends on the frameworks and the systems of knowledge that society has created to ascertain what “truth” is. According to postmodernism, the truth is that there are many truths, all of which are dependent on the perspective that the truth seeker brings to the quest to know it. Truth, then, is profoundly subjective. (Bridges 2019, 66)

This chapter describes the more controversial methodological
choices that scholars operating within the CRT paradigm have
made (namely, the choice to tell stories in legal scholarship) and
the substantive claims that they have made that have been
subject to the most criticism. Before beginning, it is worth
reiterating that those who employ a CRT framework in their
scholarship are a motley crew. Thus, while some critical race
theorists have engaged in storytelling and have made the
provocative claims explored below, it would be an error to assert
that all critical race theorists have done the same. CRT is
capacious enough to accommodate those who find storytelling
incompatible with their own disciplinary methodologies; and it is
roomy enough to include those who disagree with the claims
described below. To put it more bluntly, CRT is a theoretical
approach; it is not a cult
