The plaintiffs in this case are already using Trump's post against him, filing a supplemental notice just now that says the administration is "withholding SNAP benefits from individuals and families who need vital food assistance for partisan political gain."

Republicans from high-tax states like California and New York are deeply opposed to that tax hike on their constituents. And, while they make up a small portion of the party's House conference, they are more than enough to sink the party-line bill.
State budgets are also at issue with any cuts to federal spending on Medicaid requiring more state-level funding.
