When the season changes, we’ll be getting them from Spain instead, and they’ll still be 60p each, but will have travelled only 1,000 miles. Just like the oranges at 75p each. Same goes for the South African lemons at 45p each. It’s lemon season somewhere in the world!
Had a look in my city centre M&S when I went to get lunch. A pair of avocados for £1.20. From Peru. They’ve traveled 6,000 miles, and they’re only worth 60p each. The producers are getting nothing. I have taken part in an avocado harvest, and it is properly hard work.
I feel like there is some artistic license here, around the use of “at risk” and “becoming”. Also curious about the use of “Labour rivals”….. I think that’s almost Freudian Slip level revealing 🤔
