I had forgotten there was a passage in Joanna Baillie's Introductory Discourse to her Plays on the Passions, where she's like: "I don't endorse suicide, btw.". Authors adding a disclaimer because they knew people would misread the text...we really haven't changed in 200 years, have we? 😭
