For his own version and more goodies including pics of the original you want the 'Weekly Scotsman' 17 and 24 November 1923. It's not the same as the daily newspaper and I don't think it's digitised - here's a snippet

Newspaper cutting - A Gloomy Portrait

In a corner apart from these as if if no consequence was a large portrait of a man, dark and gloomy, standing up on a studio easel. It was varnished and all but obscured with the dirt of age. On an old tablet affixed to the frame was the painter’s name Raeburn. Only the eyes and the white neck cloth were visible - but what eyes! They looked at you through and through. I felt unaccountably attracted to this dirty old portrait. A strange uncanny feeling I could not account for, a tremor ran through my body I felt immovable. I realised distinctly that there were spirit people near me. I could sense the presence without seeing them. Words came distinctly to me “Ma portrait. Burns. My ain sel.” How or in what manner, I cannot say or explain but those familiar with soul science will understand

Me leaving Twitter while various blokes tut-tut

National Records of Scotland cutting hours which are bad enough already for access. I have problems accessing them at the moment which I was hoping to overcome and now if I do, a whole precious afternoon hour lost. Mornings are not workable for me.
