Tripling nuclear energy by 2050 is unrealistic
The study also examines whether the goal set by some countries to triple global nuclear power capacity by 2050 is realistic. Such a threefold increase would require a net electricity capacity of 1,160 gigawatts by 2050. To achieve this, new capacity on the scale of the historical maximum of around 30 gigawatts would have to be connected to the grid every year on average over a 25-year period. By contrast, typically less than ten gigawatts of new capacity has been commissioned over the last 30 years, which shows that a tripling by 2050 is unrealistic.

“Our conclusion is that new nuclear power plants are too expensive and would not be ready in time to make a significant contribution to achieving existing climate targets,” said Pistner. “Renewable energies therefore remain the central pillar of a climate-neutral electricity system.”

The Al industry is no stranger to bad press, from fears over sweeping job losses to a burgeoning mental health crisis, suicide and even murder linked to the tech.
But what's really top of mind for Al tech leaders, according to new reporting by.
The Economist, is that their tech could soon be implicated in a Chernobyl-style event — referring to the 1986 catastrophe that's now nearly synonymous with the failings of the nuclear industry.
Experts have warned that as the Al industry continues to permeate society, the risks of a horrific and hyper-visible tragedy tainting the entire space are becoming significant.

I'll never forget that Elon Musk stopped the USAID programme supplying medicine that blocked mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Up to 135,000 babies were born with HIV because of him. But we'll never know exactly because he also stopped the work that would have diagnosed them.

...for a large number of these women. Importantly, the stoppage will affect an interwoven group of health care providers rather than a single group of workers. This means that, even if many of the antenatal clinic providers are employed by the Ministry of Health (as is often the case), the commodities in use, the pharmacists, laboratory technicians, and others involved in the care of pregnant women are integrated, with each being essential to quality care. Based on an expected HIV transmission rate of 40% when a woman is not on treatment and assuming that 50% of pregnant women on ART would deliver during a 90-day stoppage, we estimate that this would mean 135,987 babies acquiring HIV.
These babies, however, are highly likely to also go undiagnosed because infant HIV testing services are also being suspended due to the stop work order.
