Hot DAMN. A quick search for ‘old Warhammer 40K round space cactuses’ turned up some INCREDIBLY cool modern takes on the design. I am inspired!

Literally dusting off & re-basing some Space Orks that I first painted waaay back in high school (1990ish). I’m surprised at how excited I am to paint these guys - the sculpts have SO MUCH character. I think I’m even going to mostly preserve my teenage color choices, they’ll be a fun motley unit.

Sadly I’ve got no idea about these guys, although the Wizard has a very Dark Sword Miniatures style to him, and the warriors look pretty RAFM-ish. Completely baffled on the little monster guy.

I’m running a little Rogue Trader skirmish game at Tfest in a few weeks, so I figured I’d paint up this Water Seller & his bodyguards for the scenario. I’m not sure how ambitious I’ll get with his tattoos…

Some of the names on that list are more historically interesting than anything else these days, IMO. But for others, it’s a damn shame that they’ve fallen out of the popular consciousness. The Dying Earth books are wonderful. ‘Worlds of Jack Vance’ may be my favorite short story collection ever.

It’s been expanded and re-shuffled a few times over the years, and some of the authors’ works are VERY dated today (to be charitable), but I’ve found them all to be worth reading. It’s so interesting to me to read the inspiration behind the inspiration behind the inspiration behind modern works.

It was one of the appendices in the original D&D rulebooks; a recommended reading list of books that were foundational for the ideas & concepts of the game. It’s a wonderful pulpy selection of authors who would have been mostly familiar to nerds of that time. Less familiar to readers today.

I’m looking for recommendations for authors who aren’t listed in the Appendix N who write in what we’d call High Gygaxian. Any suggestions?

If I ever go to England again, I hope it’s the sort of trip where I can bring a sketchbook.

Last day in the UK - ate a traditional Cornish pasty, grabbed some local candy, stopped in to visit some 6000+ year old standing stones at Avebury, walked through a patch of stinging nettles, sacrificed a drop of blood to a thorn bush, and made it back to Heathrow on time. It’s been adventure!

I am going to DESPERATELY miss these steak bakes from Greggs. Hot damn these are tasty.

Despite my railway misadventure, yesterday was FABULOUS! I met @fenrisgames.com , @badsquiddogames.bsky.social , Kev White (Hasslefree Miniatures, Games Workshop), & Des Hanley (GW artist, D&D, Wargods, and many more!). We stayed in Bugman’s at Warhammer World until they closed it down!

My second ever experience with British rail: Train delayed, then cancelled, then sent to a different train, now stuck in Birmingham New Street. I might have to wait until 5AM for the next one! It’s not ideal, but it’s not the end of the world - I’ve got a sandwich and a book to read.

When I remember to do it, if I have time, and if I can find a working sharpie, I like to sometimes draw skulls on the orders that I ship out. So, here is today’s envelope skull

Apparently I’ve gone completely mad because I decided to add a map to a project a week before I need to catch a plane…

I’m calling the dragon finished - overall I’m happy with the result. There’s more I could do, but I’ve hit a point of diminishing returns. For every notch of improvement I make from here, I’d have to put in more & more & MORE time, and I think it looks all right where it’s at.
