Thankful as ever for Heizou’s heads up, who had gotten the intel from Kuki Shinobu herself, Sara was more than ready when that noisy oni and the rest of his Arataki Gang arrived.

“No.”

“Why???!!” Itto lost no time in asking, letting out a groan. “We’re ain’t gonna do anything wrong, just celebrate that Takuya’s finally out!”

“You may stay here and wait for him to celebrate, yes.” She added, not budging even a little bit. “But--” And with that, Sara glanced at all their party supplies, most of them meant to make said celebration heard in pretty much all the city. “Nothing but a calm gathering, I won’t allow anything that disturbs the neighbourhood’s peace. Or Takuya-san’s in his newly acquired freedom, by that matter.”

“Oh, c’mon!!!” Itto continued. “I bet Takuya’s gonna love it!!!”

“And did you ask him that?”

Itto opened his mouth to reply, then closed it, and repeated the process a handful of times (five, she counted) before turning towards the others. And, after a brief but deep sigh, he announced to them:

“Alright, guys. Plan B!!!” Said and done; new instructions received, his fellow gang members disbanded in search of whatever that Plan B entailed.

Itto, meanwhile, stayed.

“Aren’t you going with them?” Sara asked, more curious than anything. “I would assume the leader has some task to carry out too.”

“Well, my task is bein’ here just in case Takuya’s out sooner than expected.” He shrugged. “At least one of us gotta greet him first, duh.” That indeed made sense-- not like she considered him actually dumb, despite having called him that in several variations more than once when he got on her nerves. Rather than lacking the capacity to think, Itto just had a tendency to let his impulsiveness guide him a lot of the time. “Besides…”

“Besides?” She repeated, frowning a little.

“... Nevermind.” Itto quickly replied. “Anyway, y’know how long it’s gonna take him?”

“Not too much, I would assume, since when I got out they were sorting out his paperwork.” That was all she could give him, for those things took a while even if they didn’t reach the levels of what was said of Fontaine.

“Good!!! I bet he’s so lookin’ forward to seein’ me.” Disbelief must have shown in her face, for Itto instantly scowled. “What??!!! I helped him out, y’know. Showed the guy you don’t gotta throw your life away to make things better and all.” He seemed very proud of it, too, and looked endearing on top of that.

“I see.” Sara nodded. “Though, and as good as it is that Takuya-san is still here, I must say being willing to die in the pursuit of a better world is honorable.”

“Maybe, but that doesn’t make it less bullshit.” Itto countered.

“Excuse me?”

“You’ve heard me, Kujou.” And he had the nerve to be smug about it. “Honor doesn’t hold a candle to bein’ there to see the results of your work. It ain’t a better world for everyone if everyone can’t enjoy it.”

“... Oh.” Sara, despite how much she usually loathed losing any kind of argument against him, couldn’t deny he had a point there. “Alright.”

Having been granted victory, Itto grinned from ear to ear, and Sara couldn’t really bring herself to be mad against the still technically a loss; she would still die for her nation and her shogun… but, truth be told, there was something sweet about pretty much being asked to live for those too.

And him specifically being the one saying so, as well.

“You really don’t wanna come with me?” Mavuika asked, a tad bit smug, but mostly pleading. If she played her cards right, things could still go her way.

“Nah.” Xilonen immediately replied, as expected. She wasn’t discouraged yet.

“Oh, so you don’t trust your own design and craft, perhaps?” Of course, that was the most obvious bluff ever and Xilonen was going to see right through it in a matter of seconds; it was her response that Mavuika was after.

“What I don’t trust is your driving.” Xilonen quickly deadpanned. Also, there it was, her usual response.

Deep down, Mavuika couldn’t blame her: while Xilonen was a bigger fan of taking a slower pace unless on her rollerblades or behind a music table, she was no stranger of seeking thrills instead-- not like all there was in her life was Archon duties and adrenaline, since she also knew how to relax, but still. And it wasn’t like that was a problem for them-- in fact, if Mavuika’s stream of new challenging projects with difficult deadlines hadn’t put a strain on their relationship, probably nothing ever would at all. It was just that…

“I’d like it a lot if you’d wanna try it, even just once.” Silly as it was, yes. “Promise I’ll be good if you do.” She could mind the speed, and not engage in any somersault, even. For her.

“Fail to keep that promise, and I’m jumping off.”

Mavuika let out a big laugh. She could definitely work with that.

“Can I ask you for an itty-bitty favor, dear?” Yelan asked her, and Shenhe didn’t hesitate in nodding as a first answer.

“Of course, what is it?”

“See, I just got this new lipstick from a Fontainian friend, and it’s said to be quite resistant. You know, the type to last a long time and be food-proof, drink-proof and even kiss-proof.” As the explanation went on, her partner accompanied those words with a damn lot of mischievous smirks. So, even if she still had a way to go when it came to understanding context clues (Yelan had to sit her down and be very clear about wanting a relationship with her, for starters)... no, Shenhe had no doubt about what was coming next.

“You want help to test those claims, right?” Yelan swiftly nodded, prompting her to release one last simple inquiry before going straight to the testing. “With all of it, or do you wish to go directly to the kissing part?”

A giggle escaped Yelan’s throat, fond rather than mocking (yes, she had learned to pick those apart rather quickly), and replied by pressing her lips to Shenhe’s.

Directly to the kissing part it was, then.

Momo barely had any time to process how Hatsune Mei, the support student who precisely had caught her attention the most due to mostly her brains but also because she had eyes and the girl was gorgeous, was approaching her. No, before she had properly registered the fact, Mei was already right in front of her, taking Momo’s hands in hers and pleading.

“Yaomomo-san, please be my partner!”

Of course, Momo’s first reaction was blushing profusely. She wasn’t as awestruck as to forget Mei wanted to recruit her for the recently announced competition where hero and development students were to pair up with each other. And yet…

Wow.

“Oh, I--” At least, her composure didn’t abandon her for too long. “I wasn’t expecting you to… you know…” Still, it took a bit for Momo to start forming coherent thoughts and sentences, especially since Mei hadn’t let go of her hands. “But I’d love to team up with you.” Personal feelings aside, it was more than obvious that the two of them would make an amazing duo, so accepting her offer was a total win on all fronts.

“Yayyy!!!” Mei held her hands up in celebration, which meant Momo’s hands went up too. And, when the other girl let go, it was to wrap her arms around Momo with quite the enthusiasm instead. “I can’t thank you enough! We’re gonna be the best team there is!”

“I have no doubt about that, Hatsune-san.” Momo managed to reply, reciprocating to the hug way more softly but rather confidently despite her initial nervousness.

“Please, just call me Mei.” Was the instant reply Momo got.

“Alright, Mei-san.” Momo cleared her throat. “Mei-chan.” Then she did it again. “So, please skip the formalities with me too. Yaomomo it’s fine, though, or just Momo.”

‘This exam’s been awful.’ Was all Ochako had said before Momo enveloped her in a tight and warm hug; despite how she would never be in a situation like Ochako’s, where not keeping good grades would mean losing a scholarship she desperately needed to carry on with her studies, Momo had proven to be most understanding of where Ochako was standing in.

And, since Ochako had refused financial aid from her (she couldn’t at all, less of all when it came to Momo-- what if she thought Ochako was only after her money?), Momo had made a point of cheering her up in other ways.

Such other ways, Ochako realized as they arrived at the park in general and a spot which already had a whole picnic setup prepared, also included money.

Momo had become a pro at that, doing similar stuff in ways Ochako couldn’t refuse.

“You didn’t have to.” Ochako said nonetheless, even if a smile was starting to appear on her face. As time passed and their relationship moved forward, it was becoming more and more difficult for her to resist gestures like that. Though she couldn’t see herself forgetting how much Momo must be spending on her anyway.

“Well, no, I didn’t have to.” Taking advantage of their entwined hands, Momo guided her towards the picnic blanket, proud as one could be. “But I wanted to.”

Rather than simply sitting down, the two of them ended up sort of colliding against said blanket by virtue of Ochako tackling Momo into a hug as strong as the one she had received earlier on, tears of joy running down her cheeks.

“Thanks, Momo-chan!”

the ada vs a teleporting baby #bsd

Ever since he joined the Armed Detective Agency and up to that point, Jun’ichirô, could easily say how he had done more than a handful of things he would have never expected to be part of the job back when was but a mere rookie. Including but not limited to helping save both the city and the entire world, pretend to be about to blow himself up and others in Atsushi’s entrance exam or sneak into Port Mafia headquarters with the intentions of assassinating the boss so their president didn’t die.

None of that, though, had prepared him for the situation they were currently in.

“Alright, everyone get in position!” Kunikida announced, and each one of them followed the command in a heartbeat. In theory, the baby they were all surrounding shouldn’t be so easy to catch. But in practice… In practice, that baby had already manifested an ability, and of course it had to be one that made them extra complicated to keep in one place.

“Dazai, be ready. Atsushi, Kyôka and Yosano-sensei, try to not lose sight of them and prepare to follow just in case. Jun’ichirô, distract them.”

“Yes!” Everyone said in almost perfect unison.

“Kenji, you’ve got the milk already?” Kunikida also added, to which the boy simply nodded. If they played their cards right, maybe that could be the moment in which they succeeded. Opposed to their previous five attempts.

“On one, two, three!”

By making use of Light Snow, Jun’ichirô started conjuring his best rendition of an improvised puppet show in the hopes that would suffice, as the rest closed in on the infant; if Dazai could grab them, they would all be breathing in relief in a matter of perhaps seconds and they could shift focus towards finding the child’s parents. If luck was on their side, and with Ranpo and Dazai there, that might not take long.

Or maybe it would, since that baby poofing away to then reappear sort of perched on one of the shelves already signaled their attempt number six as unsuccessful too.

At least, seven was going to be the lucky number there.

“I’ve never seen anything like that.” Aya said, looking up with a wonderstruck expression drawn all over her face. Kyôka couldn’t judge her, nor did she want to: she had been exactly like that on her first time.
Damn, she was exactly like that now too.
“Don’t get a sky like that in the big city, huh?” Kenji replied, clearly proud of himself for bringing them there, and for a good reason.
He, after all, hadn’t been kidding when he said ‘I know the perfect spot for stargazing’ because he had indeed delivered. And, on top of that, there was a meteor shower coming, so the three of them were in for a treat.

“Hello, do you want--?” Yosano didn’t mean to flinch. But, after hearing Fukuzawa speak to her when she hadn’t noticed him approaching, she did. “Sorry.”
“No need to apologize, it’s me.” Her and all the remnants she carried from both the war and later the hospital, even if Akiko hadn’t been but an empty shell for most of her time at the latter until Ranpo and Fukuzawa found her. “I… I don’t like having people in my space.” Again, a remnant she carried; not having a single shard of time to spend alone first, then being alone a lot of the time but the staff also barging in whenever they deemed necessary to without no notice had done that to her.
“Oh. I can…” Fukuzawa started out, but she quickly shook her head in response.
“No, it… it’s fine.” She lost no time in assuring. “You’re fine. Ranpo-kun is too, of course. Stay.”
Yosano meant it. She needed to get used to these things again, after all, having people close (especially those she was both living and working with) without alarms sounding in her head. And she appreciated the company, too.

“Alright.” Fukuzawa replied, nodding and sitting beside her. He had been carrying a tray that contained a kettle, some cups, cutlery and a plate of daifukus. “Do you want some?” Was his question, settling said tray over the table at a perfect distance to reach without moving much.
“I do, thanks.” She replied, to which he responded by starting to serve the tea while she grabbed a daifuku from the plate.
And, not longer after that, the sound of steps swiftly rushing to the room could be heard coming-- until Ranpo’s head popped from the doorframe, grinning from ear to ear like he had detected the presence of snacks. Knowing him, he probably had.
“Me too!!!”

Gin waved a hand to make it clear there was no issue, and was pretty much expecting the conversation to end there, but to her surprise it didn’t. For quite the number of reasons, the first of them being what the newcomer said next.

“Also, this sounds better when it’s a drink, but fuck it. Can I buy you food?”

It was then when she finally turned her head to look at the person beside her, blinking in confusion, and realized where she had heard such a voice before.

When Sigma woke up, most of what they could see was white, with some black and gray sprinkled. And most of what they could hear was a rhythmic succession of whispers that came to a halt a brief after opening their eyes. Which, to be fair, overall meant they were faring better than expected after using their ability on Dostoevsky and willingly taking on such a big load of information.

(Sure, who could have imagined it was going to be centuries worth of intel anyway, but still.)

Then, as he managed to fully focus his senses after having been asleep for-- quite long, that was all Sigma was willing to speculate on, a familiar white braid tickled his cheek when its owner leaned in to press a kiss over his forehead.

It was then when they realized they were in Nikolai’s arms, and he had likely been holding onto them for quite some time too.

“How long was I--?” Sigma started out asking, before choosing to leave that for if nothing else until a bit later. Preferably, after the incoming headache that always invaded him after waking up from an ability-related processing nap had both settled and passed since he would be sharper then. And, in the relatively small timeframe before having to deal with that, he would rather do nothing at all.

Unless there were better options than simply nothing, like what Nikolai suggested.

“Come here.” He mouthed, even when making most of the moves himself so Sigma didn’t have to make any effort, and lowering his face to reach their lips.

Exhaustion be damned, Sigma melted into the kiss anyway, using up all the strength he could currently muster to wrap his arms around Nikolai as well. Whatever was coming next, it could wait for at least a kiss’ duration.

“You’re back.” As excited as a puppy greeting his owner (and he had experience witnessing that, for the record) Tetchô dashed towards Jôno, so fast he might have fallen off had his partner felt cheeky enough to make use of his ability and slip through his grasp, kissing him like they had been apart for weeks instead of just a few hours.

“One’d think I’m coming back from war, Tetchô-san.” Jôno said when that first kiss ended, in a way which might sound more judgy were he not smiling.

“I’ve missed you anyway.” He instantly replied. “A lot.”

If there was something as certain as how the sun rose in the mornings and set in the evenings, it was how Tetchô pretty much never had enough of Jôno’s company no matter if he was able to spend most of the time by his side. But also, after having feared losing him forever, such a craving had been increased tenfold-- to the point of Tetchô himself fearing becoming overbearing.

At least, nothing about his behavior had been deemed as actually off-putting by Jôno, despite what he sometimes said; people didn’t always say what they meant, he had learned soon as a child, and Tetchô had too fallen for someone who was an expert of that.

“I don’t think I believe you yet.” Jôno added, tapping his chin with his index finger in a faux idle way. “You’re going to have to keep convincing me.”

That, of course, was an invitation to go ahead and get more kisses… and perhaps not simply kisses but more, depending on how things went. An invitation that, needless to say, Tetchô took more than eagerly.

Once they were out of the shootout’s range, Yosano deemed it doable to have a brief stop, though not before making sure the coast was clear first.

“No one’s followed, yeah.” Ranpo also confirmed, nodding.

Having to flee while Atsushi and Kunikida took care of the matter (on Kunikida’s command, by the way) had meant she had scooped him in her arms bridal style, running as fast as she could without dropping Ranpo or breaking a shoe while at it either. Thankfully, the doctor had chosen platforms instead of heels for that undercover job, or that would have been more difficult.

And now, both could breathe. Sure, Akiko had been the only one doing actual physical effort, but finding a good route immediately fell on Ranpo’s shoulders so she could focus on running, so it was safe to say both deserved a break.

“And the only ones who have to follow will find us easily with Atsushi-kun’s tiger senses, so…” She shrugged, placed a brief kiss on the top of Ranpo’s head and then proceeded to motion in order to bring him back to his feet once again. Or was about to when he shook his head.

“No, don’t stop.” He said, grinning from ear to ear. “I liked it. I like when you hold me like that.” It was nothing new, actually, and yet it made her smile all the same.

“I see.” She replied, changing strategies to go and sit on a nearby bench without letting him go instead. In the case they run back into trouble, resuming the retreat would take her an extra second, but… Hm, if there was something she was pretty sure about, it was how that wasn’t going to be necessary at all.

Despite his best efforts to avoid that, the whistling getting closer ended up taking Chûya’s focus away from the report he should turn in the following day and towards the head that soon after popped up from behind the doorframe.

“Are you done yet?” Ranpo asked, pouting. “I’m hungry!”

Scoffing more out of principle than anything, Chûya grabbed his phone, unlocked it and then sent it levitating in Ranpo’s direction for him to pick it up.

“Order what you wanna, and I’ll join you when food’s here.” He said with a smirk.

And, of course, Ranpo didn’t need to be told twice.

“Alright!”

Humming along with the song coming from the stage, Yosano walked around, making a point to look at her surroundings.
If everything was going as planned, and she had yet to notice anything that signaled otherwise, Ranpo should be nearby at one of the tables, and Sigma should already be building a rapport with the casino’s staff by virtue and use of previous experience working in the industry. They needed to not just find the manager, who was said to be pretending to be yet another regular worker, but also get him to work with them for the plan to succeed. And if they failed…
… Well, things could still be done, but damn if it wasn’t going to be more annoying.

“One more night, and we’re all going home.” Ranpo said, and despite that being a voice-only call, Yosano could already picture his smile. How not to?

“One more night, and then you’ll finally be back in my arms.” She replied in turn, already smiling as well. After all that had happened, plus all which had to happen before fully containing what definitely counted as the worst disaster the Agency had ever faced (so far, at least), there was nothing Akiko would like more than spending time with him doing absolutely nothing but rest and recharge.

Needless to say, that still included many options, such as ordering take-out, cuddling, and getting to sleep together in both the literal and metaphorical sense.

“Yeah, and you can bet I won’t be moving from there in a long while.” And needless to say too, Ranpo was precisely and exactly on the same page as she was; there was no need to say anything more than what he already had to confirm it.

“Good.” Yosano lost no time in saying, followed by a more serious: “Be careful, by the way.”

Yes, the greatest detective in the world always landed on his feet like the cat he seemed to be in a lot of realms, but that didn’t mean those who loved him weren’t going to worry about his safety, especially while being away. At least, the plan included him having people around to protect him when (not ‘if’) fighting was needed, as it always did.

“You too.” He said in barely a heartbeat.

Yes, the doctor who had also been given a healing ability might be incredibly hard to take down, but that didn’t mean those who loved him weren’t going to worry about his safety, especially while being away. At least, the plan involved her carrying out more verbal than physical frays at first-- even if she wouldn’t mind ending up having to bring out her knives into battle. Plus, it wasn’t like Yosano was the biggest fan of having the spotlight in a case where the whole world was watching, less of all after the taste of it she got back in the days during the war.

“Gotta go now, and guess you’re getting summoned soon unless they’ve decided to slack off-- unlikely, especially now.” Ranpo then added, letting out a brief hum before actually saying his goodbyes. “Love you.”

“Love you too.” She ended the call with, feeling more than ready to face what was coming in order to go back to peaceful times and the one she loved.
