Human Security and the History of Capitalism:
How should we understand the relationship between societies’ economic and social security and their national security in a globalized world? This lecture explores the intertwined history of capitalism and international institutions in the twentieth century. It shows how, in the 1920s, 1940s, and 1990s, the search for peace and prosperity was shaped by ideas and practices that came to be known as ‘Positive’ or ‘Human Security’.
By situating contemporary debates on ‘geo-economics’ within a longer historical perspective, the lecture offers a framework for understanding current tensions in the global order

📚 How did Germany move from division and dictatorship to democratic stability — and can that stability endure? This is the leading question in FRIAS Alumnus Andrew Port's new book "Germany" (Polity Press):
