First flowering for me of the rather odd Stanhopea relative, Cirrhaea dependens

Unbranded bur-reed, Sparganium emersum, surviving in a tiny corner of the New River, London. The rest of the stretch visited by the LNHS/BSBI yesterday was dominated by pollution induced algal mats where even Elodea & Callitriche struggled. Typically trashed water-body of SE England. @wildflowerhour

And, this one is very pale. Only seen a variant like this once in over 40 years.

Other nice finds, Pill Sedge, Carex pilulifera and Lousewort, Pedicularis sylvatica; both species declining rapidly in London and the adjoining areas.

Not tiny plants, but tiny spore bearers #WildflowerHour two satisfying records from Hainault Forest in South Essex where these plants are increasingly uncommon. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Yup, here’s a thorny one on the Isle of Wight.

Just visiting King’s X and found Datisca cannabina growing (& originating from parent plants in nearby flower beds) on the canal wall; potentially the first of many. Another ‘gift’ from the owners/developers and their landscape architects to Greater London.

Here’s one I saw in Dijon, plus a brutalised bat.

A panoply of ecological delights await the human eye and the hungry invertebrate.
