Here's a (very true) cat story from 30 years ago.

I will tell you the story of B.A., my longtime girlfriend's cat, from around 30 years ago.

Now, BA stood for something. My girlfriend told me. But I forgot then, and I forget now. It was pretentious and kind of latin maybe?

But those of us who chanced to live with BA over the years had many names for him, as several of us lived in a group house for 2 years together.

Botanical Anhilalator:

BA would not countenance houseplants in his presence. He systematically destroyed, either through knocking them to the ground or by mastication, anything remotely alive and green he could see. (Luckily, he was not allowed outside.)

Bad Antenna:

Our buddy Rex (not his real name) loved to watch baseball, but he had to work during certain afternoon games. He was new to the group house, and brought with him a working VCR--which we could use, except for certain days when he taped baseball games he wanted to watch. Anyway, over and over again, Rex would come home from a hard day's flipping burgers (or whatever he did), flip on the game, start watching, and then suddenly like an hour in the channel would change randomly.

Rex was convinced someone in the house was pulling a prank on him. (I will admit that, after the third time it happened, it did become kind of hilarious; dude was so frustrated.) In any case, the explanation became apparent one day when we were all home watching football together. Back in those days, you had a thing called the "cable box" which sat on top of your TV and fed you entertainment. In addition to the remote control, most of these cable boxes also had buttons to change the channel/volume on top of the case as well.

So those of you with laptops no doubt know the answer to the mystery here. The cable box was warm,, and BA liked to sit on it sometimes. So we all watched BA climb aboard the TV and change the channel during the game. It was Rex that then christened him "bad antenna."
