While I wait for this to arrive, let's test out a Geforce4 Ti 4200 and see how it compares.
Ok, so I got this for a few quid, so let's see if we can get even more performance. This is a Quadro K620 (double the VRAM and also supposed to be 600% faster than the Geforce GT 520 I'm currently testing). This is pretty close to a Geforce GTX 750 and has XP drivers.
I've changed this to light map lighting, absolutely maxed out, I'm keeping this PCIe card in, so good!
I made an Eclipse collage of photos I took using a floppy disk as a filter 💾 ☀️🌙 (until the clouds came over 😊)
This is Quake 3 at max everything, also 1280x1024, it hits that default 90fps cap. I'll test more tomorrow, as I need to sleep but it's looking good TBH!
Drivers installed ok, and wow, this is max out settings and at 1280x1024. I don't think it's 600% faster, but it is certainly faster that's for sure and the game is way more playable.
Well, it's in, the back of the card is close to the drive bays, so I've put a rubber stopper behind it to stop any accidents. Also, it's posts, so that's a good start.

I bought this PCIe to 32bit PCI converter, thought I'd test a few LP cards in my shuttle to see if I get a performance bump, or it gets bottlenecked. 🤔

I finally got around to recapping the motherboard and PSU on my Shuttle XPC SN45G V3 and damn it's as stable as heck! Such a great compact machine, perfect for my favourite era of games 😍
