“To think language would be so transparent as to allow knowing!” (Arkady Martine, A Desolation Called Peace)
I could probably write a journal article for each song with the way they activate my inner academic while also making me feel religious in a way I haven’t in a very long time
did a re-listen of Rosalía’s LUX and top four favorite songs are: 1. reliquia 2. focu ‘ranni 3. divinize 4. la yugular
my balcony garden is out of control with all this rain and all this heat I’m gonna cry 🥹🧿
ελληνικό πρωινό 🥰 (συγγνώμη ξέχασα το τσιγάρο)
back to Slayyyter “something you wanted to say but I’m by his side”
call me a Midwest Balkan Princess the way Marina Satti, Marina and the Diamonds, and Chappell in the queue
y’all my local newspaper was like yea that’s a flawless headline send it directly to print
Just started reading Becky Chambers’s A Psalm for the Wild-Built and I feel like y’all could’ve sold this to me better if you had told me the monk is horny all the time
hot girl summer solstice tonight [staying in to watch a movie]
ΜΠΑΛΚΑΝ ΓΚΕΡΛ ΣΑΜΕΡ (balkan girl summer i.e. some artists on my pop rotation)
please accept my submission for this week’s Unedited Bad Poetry in Your Notes App Monday (thanks Julia Jacklin for setting the mood)
also I’m obsessed with a beautiful book cover that’s inspired by an actual scene from the book—the cover of A Desolation Called Peace is from chapter 18, p. 445 “..[Nine Hibiscus]’s silhouette hiding and revealing the still-present shape of that alien ship..”
also the aliens speaking to Swarm (Twenty Cicada) about language: “There is some disbelief, within the reaches of the *we.* To think language would be so transparent as to allow knowing!” (474)
“I’d write back,” [Mahit] said. “All the time.”
why does treating myself to a walk thru the art museum get me so emotional anyway here’s some cool art I saw:
I just finished de Bodard’s Navigational Entanglements and it did not disappoint my gay little heart—it’s just a novella but still she manages to write a slow burn enemies to lovers romance
happy pride to my balcony garden that made it thru the storm last night
sidebar: in the following episode, is bearded Geordi La Forge… hot?
omg that old (“ancient”) west holodeck program episode where Data shows up in drag had me gagged (according to me, Data and Worf obviously kissed but the scene was deleted for public television)
today on taking an evening walk for my stupid mental health: literally just realized Maya Hawke whom I’ve been listening to for awhile now is Stranger Things gay icon ROBIN?!
"They say Paramount+ has become a tool of the oligarchs and we should cancel it and buy physical media secondhand.”
finished Navigational Entanglements just in time for book club also I’m suing Aliette de Bodard for emotional damage
next up on the daily depression walk is Sufjan Stevens’s Illinoise (2005) I don’t think I’ve listened to it all the way thru but it’s so good and also nostalgic just hit the midway point with “Chicago”—who can beat that opening line: “I fell in love [with a boy] again” just pure gay art
Here’s my fav film set on a ship: Star Trek: First Contact (1996)
