Science Fiction. Constitutional Law. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. Fortnightly newsletter on SFF, Indian spec fiction, and books:
Today was the 45th monthly meeting of the Delhi Science Fiction Reading Circle. We had an intense, two-hour debate around @tlotlotsamaase.bsky.social’s Womb City, and the issues around gender, motherhood and patriarchy, AI, and crime and punishment, among others, that it throws up. (1/3)
Came back to this book after two years and every word of it makes so much sense.

Came back to re-read this book after a couple of years; by some distance the most powerful work of legal philosophy I’ve read in a while. Upends a whole way of thinking that lawyers are socialised into.

Today was the 41st monthly meeting of the Delhi Science Fiction Reading Circle. Three years after debating A Memory Called Empire, we returned to @byzantienne.bsky.social’s work with some very intense discussions about first contact, colonisation, and language in A Desolation Called Peace.

One of the most astonishing books I’ve read; the kind where you have to stop underlining, because then you’d end up underlining every paragraph.
Followed this up with If Beale Street Could Talk, and the contrast in depth is unbelievably stark.
Got this after reading multiple rave reviews, and am thoroughly disliking it? It’s so on the nose that it feels as if I am being bludgeoned on the head and being ordered to feel something, rather than actually discovering feeling through the story.
On the night of May 19, 100,000 people spontaneously gathered in North London. Strangers before & after, but for a few hours, sharing the most intimate bond - love of a football club. Three pieces about the unique & universal 22-year journey that brought us all there (thread👇🏼)
Yesterday was awful but who can stay sad too long when there’s a parade to go to?
