This is fantastic, by @suscrockford.bsky.social I was - personally - particularly interested in the analysis of how society views scientists, vs how scientists view themselves, and how those conceptions interact with the sources of science’s legitimacy
Well that was fun 🔭 Loads of people in the park enjoying a Science Thing, what a great day
Turns out total internal reflection inside the iPhone camera makes for a perfect eclipse viewer… (That crescent above the Sun is the Sun)
Oh, so the over-leveraging of our higher ed sector on intl students is also to blame for the inflation of entry tariffs & all the undue pressure on 6th Formers? You mean it wasn’t just “grade inflation”?? It wasn’t just unis compensating for schools “dumbing down”??? Wha…?! Colour me shocked.
And this, whatever this is, without adding any potentially libellous commentary of my own
This is a pretty damning chart tbh. Even distribution across quadrants 1 and 4 meaning that when the Economist goes out on a limb, it’s a coin toss for correctness…
missing edward saïd today “Londoners mould homes from clay in desperate effort to escape life in wooden shacks”
Another Waymo hits a biker. On the Old Kent Road. Waymo turning right. Bike going straight with right of way…
HS2: then and now. Which one of these plans was estimated to cost £32bn and which was estimated to cost £103bn?
a flowchart showing a *simplified* picture of Labour Kafkaesque leadership election procedures fun thought experiment: a vindictive incumbent could stand down before a nom gets 81 MPs & set a rapid timeline for the election, forcing oppos to scramble for CLP support needed for an unforced election
Interesting to know that if I were a woman it would be 50/50 on Greens rather than 2/1 for Labour
no for both, but you can always count on the paparazzi to deliver
Ah yes those famously totally apolitical songs *checks notes* Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and American Idiot 🧐
Just looking at Reform’s “mass deportation” [sic] policy. Having central integrated government database is a key aspect of it Brits have historically been (correctly!) very suspicious of such things as an infringement on civil liberties Also: Reform was against Labour’s latest govt ID policy!
BBC Verify have *finally*, at 13:56 - almost a full 9 hours after their first reports - posted an analysis of the widely available video footage. Yet their summary continues to “both sides” the event, repeating Trump Admin lines without summarising outcome of the Verify analysis
absolutely nothing about the reality of what happened in the latest summary. Just a false claim that the news conferences communicated "details" (is that what they're calling "lies" now?)
The person who actually fucked up is whoever made this decision in 2013 to not use the Govt platform and to instead use… WordPress, for completely bogus “autonomy” reasons (how autonomous are you anyway if you’re using HMT mail servers?). Seems like a leadership decision not a technical decision.
Bit of a change of tune from Lammy re jury trials. I recall @barristersecret.bsky.social saying in their book that you should always choose a jury trial if possible, because the chances of injustice are much higher in the magistrates’ court.
I get that this Trump visit to the UK is a Big Deal, but is it really so much of a big deal that there is literally nothing else the BBC considers above-the-fold newsworthy?
