Retired NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service officer. My videos, mostly about Australian wildlife, can be seen on Werrong Lane: Check it out! I stand with Ukraine! 🇦🇺🇺🇦 I block bullshit accounts.
My dad flew Mosquitos, and was most famous for an engagement over the Bay of Biscay when his patrol savaged the JU88 patrol that shot down the BOAC airliner carrying the actor Leslie Howard a week earlier. Here’s the post-operation publicity shot. Dad on the L, his observer “Shorty” Frazer on R.
I just joined the electric vehicle age with a Subaru Trailseeker AWD! Was the first local to take delivery so the dealer made a photo op of it. Very nice to drive and the much-hyped acceleration is scary! Will take weeks to master the huge range of digital party tricks.
Waiting for me in the letterbox when I got home. Always happy to contribute to Ukraine’s ultimate victory over Putinist fascism.
Clambering up the granite boulders of the rock wall at the entrance to the Narooma River is tough going if you've evolved for a life in the ocean and what's left of your legs is all inside you, but gee, it's all worth it for a nice place in the sun! #seals #WildOz #AustralianWildlife
On the South Coast of NSW, the roos have discovered the advantages of suburban life. Everybody's neighbourly, there's lots of sweet grass to nibble, plenty of water, and car ports, porches and verandahs to shelter and sleep in if the weather turns nasty. Even the dogs have come to accept them!
Too Much Spare Time Department. Home made diorama of the bushranger Ned Kelly holding up a man driving a cart. It’s beside Little River Rd just outside Braidwood, NSW. When I was a kid “Who’s robbing this coach, you or Mr Kelly?” was a common rejoinder when somebody questioned an expert.
Seen in a local cafe. Actually, when the first platypus skins made their way to Europe, not a few people thought that platypuses were either a hoax or the result of species miscegenation. I wonder if the cartoonist knew this. #WildOz #AustralianWildlife #platypus
The EV revolution is really gathering pace! At the Saturday market at Moruya (6 June '26) an impressive display of new EV models with many brands represented. By doubling down on fossil fuels and ICE vehicles the Trump-loving Libs, Nats and PHONies have hitched their wagon to a dying beast. #auspol
A lovely day for some sunbaking at the beach with your friend the Willy Wagtail. Actually, Willy's there to grab the insects you flush out of the grass. Depot Beach, Murramarang National Park, NSW South Coast. #kangaroos #WildOz #AustralianWildlife #birds
Fascinating article with insights from his hapless daughter from his first marriage. What a crook and a scumbag Richo was. What a disgrace that he was given a state funeral at which the prime minister spoke. #auspol
“TURPITUDE RD”? Holy Mother of Darwin, what moral abomination did it lead to? I guess we’ll never know because impenetrable acacia regrowth after the 2019-20 bushfires has mercifully choked off this track.
This from this morning’s SMH. And a reminder that, in the last federal election, the Liberal Party relied heavily on the Exclusive Brethren — a sect that forbids its members to vote — to distribute their how-to-votes at the polling booths. #auspol
Low tide in the Narooma River estuary is a great opportunity for this Great Egret to forge for fish, worms, crustaceans and crabs. Great Egrets are found across much of the world and were first scientifically described in 1758 by Linnaeus, the inventor of the modern classification system. #birds
At the tiny hamlet called Bergalia, just off the Princes Hwy south of Moruya (it was once a village) there’s a war memorial topped by a what remains of a Vickers MG. It’s missing its hand grips and somebody has faked a pistol grip & trigger underneath. The tripod is missing too.
The Kings Highway, from Australia's capital, Canberra, to Batemans Bay on the Pacific coast, comes down Clyde Mtn. A tremendous feat of incremental road building, from a pre WW2 dirt track to today, it clings to precipitous, geologically unstable, slopes. Great fun to drive. Motor bikers love it!
I opened the public toilet door very cautiously in case a big one came bounding out. 😂
A flock of Royal Spoonbills in feeding frenzy (not speeded-up!). They use their sensitive bills to detect aquatic prey and a drying-up wetland provides a big opportunity! #WildOz #Birds #AustralianWildlife #birdwatching My short doco on this fascinating bird: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxrv... (3:42)
Well, a MAGA influencer has published this – the alleged shooter wearing an Israeli Defence Forces sweatshirt. If authentic, is rather interesting, eh!
If you've only recently followed me, hit that VIDEOS button under the banner and check out my many 30 second vids on Australia's fascinating wildlife! This is a big Diamond Python I encountered on a back road.
Hubble was wrong. According to Palarang Shire's official astronomer, the Centre of the Universe is located 74 km ESE of Canberra, Australia, in the village of Mongarlowe. Big opportunity here for souvenir mugs & teeshirts if only there was a cafe, a servo, or a shop to sell them at. #astronomy
You’ve no idea how many places in the UK are named after well-known places in Australia, why, just the other afternoon I passed Runnymede Farm. Apparently there’s a spot in the UK named after it. Something to do with parliament I understand.
Galahs are cockatoos found all over Australia, except in areas of dense forest. They're not keen on bathing in standing water, usually conditioning their feathers with fine, white, talcum-like powder from specialized feathers, but they really enjoy taking a shower! #birds #birdwatching #WildOz
Screenshot from this AM’s Sydney Morning Herald. Hegseth previously compared the downed US airman who was rescued to Christ, Trump compares himself to Christ, and now journalists are Pharisees. And peak Trumpian madness is still to come. Courage, everybody, have courage. #auspol
My NAFO hoodie arrived from Kyiv! It has Velcro on the sleeves so one can affix the collectible NAFO patches you get for donating 100 Euro+. From my collection I’ve picked one celebrating the Flamingo missile and one trolling idiot Trump over tariffing Australian Antarctic penguin islands. #auspol
Human evolution reaches the highest stage with ... surfing! Noticed this yesterday at Tuross Hd. Local surf shop owner I'd guess. Somewhere I have a French T-shirt I was gifted with this traditional icon ending with the human holding a glass of red and slogan: "L'évolution de DarWINE". #evolution
