Looking at LFPR & EPOP for prime-age folks (age 25-54), both measures ticked up this month. The overall labor force has been falling due, in part, to aging boomers. (7/8)
The Black unemployment rate continues to fall, but (like the overall unemployment rate) is due to a drop in labor force participation as the job-finding rate has not risen. (5/8)

Interesting piece about entrenched inflation, but I do quibble with this statement. Policy is not a fact of life and matters for the path of inflation, which means it can be reversed. www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

Looking at LFPR & EPOP for prime-age folks (age 25-54), both measures fell this month, but more data are needed to see if this becomes a trend or just a blip. (6/7)
U6 – a measure of underemployment – fell slightly to 7.9% from 8.1%. As with much of the other labor metrics, it is holding steady. (5/7)
The Black unemployment rate held steady but continues to exceed the rate of all other groups. (4/7)
This doesn’t bode well for economic growth as consumer spending is 2/3 of GDP growth and we are already seeing signs of lower spending by consumers (revised down in Q1). Lower wage growth is one reason why. (3/7)

Looking at LFPR & EPOP for prime-age folks (age 25-54), both measures have pretty stabilized in 2026. (6/7)
U6 – a measure of underemployment – fell slightly to 8.1% from 8.2%. As with much of the other labor metrics, it is holding steady. (5/7)
Black households have suffered from this decimation of the federal workforce. Their unemployment rate fell to 6.6% from 7.3%, which was driven this month by lower participation with more Black workers dropping out of the labor force. (3/7)
The federal government lost 2,600 more jobs for a total loss of over 320,000 jobs since January 2025 and this matters because the country and the economy lose as a whole, as this pointed tweet from February 2025 suggest (2/7):
