The Gears of Progress

He/Him | Themed Entertainment Software Engineer, Nintendo nerd, and lead developer for Poké Transporter GB! Always working on a fun new project 😄 TheGearsOfProgress.com
Took a break from Splatoon Raiders to do a little more Safari hunting- and I’m glad I did!! Found my first *ever* Safari Zone shiny, RessesPuff the Natu after 1638 encounters!!
Guys aren’t you so sad you don’t get to hear this amazing cacophony
OH wait there’s a closet with brooms that look like each member of The Electric Mayhem and I love that so much, my favorite new visual gag (my photo is bad trust me on this lol)
My biggest hope this that this is just the beginning of a new Muppet Courtyard at DHS- as *a* Muppet ride, it’s great. As *the* Muppet ride, it doesn’t quite work. At least for me. Fortunately it seems popular, and I hope there’s more to come.
And then we get to the references. This attraction references both Rock ‘n’ and Muppet*Vision 3D a *ton*, and I do love that. Basically every prop in the queue can be traced back to MV3D. But it’s just a little too soon- it still hurts that MV3D closed and I can’t help feel that seeing these props.
Breaking my Pokémon content to show my theme park side for a minute- I went on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets (thank you Joe from Legal) for the first time today, and as an avid Muppet fan, I am torn and wanted to give my thoughts- Thread time!
Ayyy, only 28 eggs in at 1/64 odds- not bad!! Gonna transfer this guy up for my M-A Champions team!
So I may or may not have gotten curious and bought that version of PTGB that’s on AliExpress 😬. I won’t lie, it’s very surreal seeing something I made on a cartridge that I didn’t make myself. Should I make a video talking about it? Or would that bring more attention to a bootleg of my own program?
A major part of this is the "Pokemon Community Conversion Standard" which is an open source library I created for different conversion methods. I'm really hoping this can be something the community can come together on and agree on these methods together! github.com/GearsProgres...
I'm happy to announce that v1.2.0 of Poke Transporter GB has been released!! This update fixes a lot of bugs and changes a lot on the back-end to prepare for language support and alternate conversion methods! You can check it out here: github.com/GearsProgres...
Here’s my tier list of little guys (and some larger guys too)
We interrupt your regularly scheduled “every 6 month” PTGB updates with It’s Safari Week!! Fingers crossed this year treats me better than last 🙃
Recently I’ve been messing around with what music could sound like for Poké Transporter GB! I want to have callbacks to the Dream World & other transfer methods, and this is one of the arrangements I came up with. It’s very crudely put together atm, but I think it has potential! What do you think?
Thank you Muppet*Vision 3D, for everything. You were one of a kind (well, two of a kind from 2001 to 2014) and hopefully someday you’ll return. You’ve inspired so many things in my life, and will continue to in the future. Life’s like a movie, write your own ending- keep believing, keep pretending.
And Virtual is just the Virtual Console method (for the most part). I have a chart that I've been using to plot it out, which I'll add here. Definitely subject to change though.-
In true GameBoy Pokemon fashion, the distribution calculation is bugged, so the graph is horrifyingly all over the place- but like, come on. It would be *so* cool to have these values match between games, right? Just *because* lol I think I’ve officially lost my mind 🙃
For whatever reason I’ve gotten my mind set on making the Magikarp lengths given by the Fishing Guru at the Lake of Rage in GSC the same as the ones given by the similar NPCs in FRLG and HGSS… Does this have any point? No- Will anyone ever notice? No- Is it a stupid problem I want to solve? Yes
On this day two years ago Poké Transporter GB (known as Pokémon Mirror at the time) began development! I never would’ve guessed that this project would expand as much as it has, gotten the positive response it has, and given me so many friends that share my passion in Pokémon. Truly, thank you all
Since I can access the Gen 3 ROM data at any time, I can use any sprites from RSE/FRLG without taking up any precious space in my ROM! I'm trying to decide if I should swap the Gen 2 style box sprites for the Gen 3 ones~ Part of me wants to keep the older style, but it *would* save space. Thoughts?
I’m a day late in posting, but here’s my shiny Zorua that I hunted for Ranch-O-Rama! I named them after this little one (ignore the gender is wrong shhh, the odds were against me 🥲) #JohnRanch
Definitely need to fix the audio, but I’m pretty happy with this!! I have a few more tricks up my sleeve as well that I’m planning on implementing this weekend 👀
I’ll always have fond memories of playing Soul Silver and bringing my Pokéwalker to school, good times
This is a box that plays random Frank Oz character voice clips because my sister *loves* Frank Oz- it works with Yoda, Fungus, and Fozzie Bear (not pictured) and it’s driven by an Arduino Uno with an NFC522 board and DFPlayer Mini, with NTAG215 chips inside the Tsum Tsum
I love the holidays because I have an excuse to make silly dumb nerd stuff as gifts
Seconded!! I made ornaments inspired by this one for all the pavilions a few years ago- this year they’re all on a little tree we had lying around (arranged by opening date of course)!
I’m sorry but this stupid cat is one of my favorite memes of all time like they always get me lmaoooo
