I painted some rocks. Now, back to painting the picture book!
I based the quilt in my (unfinished) painting on this beautiful quilt in the antique store's window. Much to my surprise my mother-in-law bought it for me for an early birthday present!! So sweet! I love it!!!
Two drawings, same artist, different paper! For an art class: Using paper that was affordable for the class, I found it frustrating that the paper didn't take many layers of chalk, that I couldn't get the detail I wanted, and it wasn't looking right.
I must admit I forget every time how long these paintings take. 😂 In my 1st attempt (2nd image), I got pretty far except that I wasn't sure what I was doing with the light. It just wasn't what I was going for. 🎨 All I need now is for the last quilt to be designed. 🪡It will be a surprise. 💥
Wishing it was this easy... I seem to pick the slowest art medium! I'll just pretend it is this fast.
I "take the day off" to visit my original illustrations from my picture book, ESCAPE TO PLAY and forthcoming ESCAPE TO TOWN. Of course, I had to parody Ferris Bueller's Day Off museum scene. 😂 Enjoy! "Drawn to Stories" at Gallery22 featuring Ohio #kidlit illustrators will go through the end of Feb!
This adorable kitty portrait was done as a Christmas present commission! I love drawing animals and Lucy was no exception. Honored to have been able to draw her. Soft pastels and pastel pencil on Pastelmat. 9"x12"
I had such a fun time at the "Drawn to Stories" exhibit at Gallery 22 in Delaware, Ohio!! All of the various artists' pieces together made my heart happy. I love illustration and being a kid at heart for my career!
My original illustrations from Escape to Play and the future Escape to Town will be displayed at Gallery 22 (Delaware, Ohio) starting this Friday through February 28th. I'm honored to be selected to be a part of this event alongside some amazing artists!
My pumpkin is looking at my daughter's pumpkin. Happy faces needed right now.
Ready to meet kids and sign books this weekend at the Lehner's Pumpkin Farm! I love crocheting these hats!
I've been busy painting away among other things! What have you been doing to keep your mind busy?
Crocheting hats for the little mouse character plushies I have in my picture book.
The cutest things at Birdie Books in Westerville, Ohio for my storytime: my miniature book being held by a felted finger puppet, and doghouse, dog and dog bone cookies! What a treat!
It has been a crazy summer! Here is a photo of my cat in a bag.
Looks like I have most of the kid's attention here 😉 it was a great storytime at the stuffie sleepover event at Millie Magoo's bookstore (Lakeside, Ohio)
I'll be doing storytime with Norman (the puppet) on Monday, July 7th, at 6:30pm at Millie Magoo's & The Fine Print to kick off their stuffie sleepover! Come get your book signed to read again before bed while your stuffies have a fun adventure at the bookstore! #lakesideohio
I've been soaking up all of the meet ups and interactions with librarians and authors at #alaac25. @brianlies.bsky.social has been signing copies of Cat Nap which will be released in September and @larryd56.bsky.social whose debut picture book Float, will be released in February. Congratulations!
What a wonderful endorsement from the Worthington Park Library! It was a joy to teach this group!
Enjoying a day of music at the park. I feel like I'm in a Mary Poppins scene! We played movie songs. :)
Yesterday some of our @scbwi-ohiocensouth.bsky.social illustrators met up to sketch and talk shop! It was a lovely day for it, too! @davidrickert.bsky.social
I got to meet Laura Numeroff at my local bookstore, Beanbag Books, last night! I just love If You Give A Mouse A Cookie collection. Her new book, Max and Mama is so sweet!
I'm happy to share that Escape to Play is in the Johnson County Library System! You can check it out, too!
I had a blast at Liberty Tree Elementary School Monday and Tuesday talking to some amazing Kindergarteners! They were such great listeners and I enjoyed sharing all about Escape to Play and my art process. The staff was amazing and so welcoming. I can't wait to visit again in the future!
