Math professor, devoted life partner, old dad to young kids, rather boring and predictable Gen X liberal, student of poetry and motion and civilization and nice clothes. This world is too much. Contemnit procellas. He/him/his.
Haven't been with them on-track (lifelong issue, sigh) but managed to be up at Lime Rock a while back with the ex-Maranello Concessionaires GTO and a few other cheerful old lumps. Have to be careful going to vintage races; it gets complicated when I start thinking I should be in there too.
Flexible on the color and early bumpers (matched set, not a '73) would be fine.
If "all-time" means the one that's stuck longest: C3 Corvette with Duraflex bumpers and buttresses. Orange. Because I had one when I was about five or six and even then daydreamed about washing it in the driveway. (Might still be in Mom's attic.)
Happy 120th to Satchel Paige, still the untouchable baddest to ever do it.
Not quite that much of a joke, but not much better. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_...:
Side note: McLaren just released the W1. £2 million. They're building 399 of them. I would imagine a good few of those 399 customers sleep on Hästens mattresses.
We rented a Škoda in Iceland. Pure VW MQB but by that right one of the better cars in the world. And if that's not enough: diesel, manual, AWD, brown (or at least earth-toned) station wagon. Full sweep.
Just out of curiosity dug into this a bit more and yeah, this is a '90s Chimaera interior which, I mean, my imagination can go to some gleefully smutty places but this one is just like no:
The irony is that vintage TVR interiors (this one's a 2500M) are some of the most fuckproof places on the planet.
Polite dispute. "Spoiled" is a bit harsh. Different, but not bad. Accommodates the longer wheelbase well. Of course I always liked the Ferrari FF/GTCLusso, so it could be me.
Would love to know if anyone has ever bothered to bring a MkII or (especially) MkIII Capri over the Atlantic. Maximum Eurodweeb cult points.
Guests in town: The Patrouille de France winging its way down the Hudson this morning.
Wouldn't: a decent list, actually, but fair example would be a Mercedes W113; adding lots of power and tire here misses the point completely.
Would: Since everyone's excited about the neo-retro Bertone Runabout (in tiny numbers at obnoxious pricing) the time is here for a hard update on the original production Runabout, the Fiat X1/9. Cast up a batch of 16-valve heads, top-shelf chassis pieces, redo the interior to a higher standard.
