I don't have a Prince, but I have a "Ms. Nelson" (Nelly), born March 1, 2016, who shares the same namesake. Her brother from the same litter is "Mr. Jones" (we name all our cats for our most beloved, recently-deceased music artists).
As a child, maybe five or six years old, I was given this book, which had incredibly evocative images from films I was nowhere near old enough to see, let alone comprehend. I fixated on the page devoted to Godard's WEEKEND for years.
I know my mother loved this show (and, um, certainly had FEELINGS for Sam Neill), and thought I watched it with her when it aired, but memory plays tricks, I was away at school, and any memories I have were from mom's excited retellings. Just ordered a used dvd. And had one sent to mom.
Always here for the Ubu mentions. And this picture I took nine years ago last night at the Bowery Ballroom just came up in Memories.
Can't ever let a picture (especially one new to me) of Marilyn's first on-location attempt at this scene go by without dragging in the 1933 photo of my great-grandfather in front of his shop at the same location, about a decade before he moved and Steig Jewelers took the storefront.
Happy Mother's Day! Mom & I, 1968 in Drexel Hill, PA; 1970 in Brooklyn for Greek Easter.
Fun selection of books revealed as we continue Spring cleaning in prep for our windows being replaced tomorrow. I love books, but never on cleaning or moving day...
Sometimes the ocean can be even more thoughtfully direct, though...
He also staged and shot the explosive climax of ZABRISKIE POINT for Antonioni.
A 4/20 shout out to my friends who celebrate this day and keep it holy. I myself have been a past agnostic on this but constant, chronic pain from autoimmune disease led to daily consumption, which has helped me SO VERY MUCH, thus I pay my respects with today's first Communion. And recommend.
You're a short-lived UK prog rock band from the early '70s? Neat!
Missed their actual birthday by two hours, but Mr. Jones and Ms. Nelson just turned 10 years old. They are still the most skittish and jumpy cats I've ever lived with, but they are full of affection and weirdness, and have the best coats and best health of any cats I've known. Strong sweet babies.
I don't really know him from anything else, but Van Der Beek was terrific as a vain, unintelligent version of himself in DON'T TRUST THE B---- IN APT. 23. Though the running gag about him having an infinite amount of money from DAWSON'S CREEK is far less funny now.
Farewell to Bud Cort. Some of us saw HAROLD AND MAUDE and BREWSTER MCCLOUD at a very young age and had some great inspiration to grow up weird.
