Democracy dies in darkness. (Really, it does WAPO) Retired reporter and columnist who needs to write more but look - squirrels. Worked for the Telegram & Gazette in Worcester MA. Save journalism. Save our country. Drink coffee.
Every time we go out to the backyard to cook on the grill our friendly monarch joins us.
The @thenewyorker.bsky.social has the best cartoons. Two former Red Sox players, Kike Hernandez and Mookie Betts did not attend Trump's self-serving ceremony honoring the Dodgers at the White House - a credit to both players.
I hope these are the last of the smoky sun photos but tomorrow is suppose to be worse.
Tonight's crazy sun. I can't imagine what it is like in the areas most affected by the wildfire smoke.
The bee in the pictures went fully into the closed pink Holly hock. I stood there and waited until it backed out and flew off. I love watching pollinators.
This chipmunk in my backyard certainly seems to have a (long) tail to tell.
I think the Tartan Army needs to go to Maine and try this.
Looking forward to the Thrilla in DC zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Volunteering at the Harvard Forest Fisher Museum in Petersham MA, I took a few minutes to walk up into the facility to admire and talk to cows in Jonathan Sanderson's former barnyard. I will always find time to visit with cows.
Took a trip with Dave Small of the Athol Bird and Nature Club with a talented group of birders and naturalists from around the state to the Quabbin Reservoir's Prescott Peninsula in New Salem Ma. The peninsula is normally open only for research.
It was kind of the opposite of Blue-sky tonight, but pretty.
Went down to the Quabbin Reservoir for our regular spring visit to hear the whip-poor-wills that gather there. I wish I could add a video of them calling because it was fun and a good memory from my childhood.
With much sorrow I removed my newspaper boxes from in front of my house. The Telegram & Gazette of Worcester MA and the Gardner News began delivery by mail recently. I had papers delivered here for the 40 years I've lived in the house. With no carrier, my Sun. Boston Globe also went online.
Joined Maria (Fairness) Barnes and Anne O'Connor for an Indivisible standout yesterday in Fitchburg, Ma over Route 2. Had some wee lad on a failing scooter drive by carping at us, and a few other middle finger MAGA acting foolish, but the reception was pretty good and the weather was great.
I was on vacation in Florida last week and I think I met the governor, Florida Man Ron Desantis. Is this him or did I misidentify him? He seems weird enough. He kept squawking about wanting to redistrict the state. I did think his boots were supposed to be white.
If those visiting Homestead, Florida want to do one fun thing, go to Robert Is Here fruit stand for great produce and to-die-for fruit milkshakes. The rescued animals there are also delightful.
This is the life. But literally the wonderful food is killing me. I need more exercise.
Another pleasant reason to visit Key West is it is infested with amusing roosters and chickens.
I wonder why the land I love calls me a terrorist. Great day in Boston.
On Boston Common today the Dropkick Murphys were great, Sen. Elizabeth Warren was fierce and 200,000 people gathered with some pretty clever signs. No Kings!
Dust off your best sign. Bring your enthusiasm. Get out and march today. It's important. Save our democracy. Save our immigrant neighbors. Save our colleges. Save our scientists. Save the sovereignty of other nations. Honor the Constitution. And much much more. We are the last line of defense.
I rushed around this morning to get 3,000 steps on my much loved but battered FitBit, then slow walked 141 more steps. Happy Pi Day everyone. I may have been an English major but I like to think I am a bit of a geek.
Not the best photos, but I woke up this morning to a nice eclipse of the moon.
The unhappiest creature in our yard today, except possibly me when I see the plows bury the end of my driveway again.
Good morning and to all the ships at sea. Of course no sane captain has his ship off the New England coast today.
