Working through my listening queue @record.club in my own little menu bar music player (powered by Apple Music)
Lossless was disabled in Music app, but some apps still honour the disabled streaming/download preferences, which is where my bandwidth was going. To fix, enable lossless, change streaming/download preferences, press OK, then go back in, disable lossless and press OK again.
Brutify, my fast and friendly image optimiser, recently received an update. It introduced “headless mode”, allowing the app to close automatically when it finishes, or even to completely hide the window. If any errors occur, the app will still appear. www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/brutify/
Dottie, my pixel art editor, has a custom colour picker featuring text colour search using the ~32K list of colour names by @meodai.bsky.social www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/dottie/
Dottie, my pixel art app, has Quick Look support for both its artwork files and palettes. 🎨 And there's more: one-click imports from Lospec website, plus a ton of legacy formats: .gpl, .pal, .ase/.act/.aco, .clr, etc. including embedded colour names! 🌈 www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/dottie/
Still using my "Walk with me!" Nintendo DS pedometer, last checking was 176,000 steps. which added about 5 percent to my total. Slowly getting there!
Dottie has an old school "coordinates" floating window, showing: • origin x,y • end x,y • width,height • angle,distance www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/dottie/
BottleMail was a system for delivering email, but is was totally different from regular email because both the destination (a single person) and the date when it will be delivered were unspecified! Mac OS & Windows 1997–2002, RECRUIT CO., LTD. macintoshgarden.org/apps/bottlem...
May I proudly present... Super Wild Cart kinda Excite Truck × Flicky × Donkey Kong's Crash Course Still *so much* to do but it is fun already! Pretty much locked 60fps, and do I have a story to tell about the toolchain…but that's one for another time. #superwildcart #snesdev
First sighting of an early version of my SNES engine/game being tested in the wild! #superwildcart #snesdev
Dottie also has an innovative tile editing mode…but how can that be innovated? • split canvas into tiles • select tiles shown for editing • wrap tiles for seamless editing • arrange into columns Let me know your thoughts 🤔 • releasing 2026-08-06 www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/dottie/
Did I mention Dottie supports vector layers and animation timeline? I’m busy landing all my “almost finished” stuff for the first release. Still tweaking the UI (always and forever). www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/dottie/
Dottie's pixel canvas is backed by Metal, so it runs at 120Hz (actually ~160Hz but my displays are limited). No matter how large the canvas is the response time is constant! Pixel data is stored in an optimised way so even huge canvases take little RAM. www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/dottie/
Trying to decide the final order of the Layers menu in my pixel art app Dottie. 🫠 I know it doesn't really matter that much, but this is the sort of attention to detail I put into my apps. 😅 (and of course it's another reason to use a spreadsheet/csv)
Woot! The final games from Llamasoft’s 2011/13 Minotaur Project are preserved * You’ll need a jailbroken device running iOS 10 or earlier: blog.gingerbeardman.com/2021/03/08/p... Caverns of Minos Deflex Five a Day * Goat Up Goat Up 2 * Gridrunner Minotaur Rescue Minotron: 2112 Super Ox Wars *
Dottie testers alert: the pre-release has just gone live on TestFlight! - new stuff (tileset view, symmetry, live gradient fill, clone & & colour shift tools, pressure sensitivity) - full help book/manual - performance optimisations - selection fixes www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/
Testing pressure sensitive drawing in Dottie. In this demo I’m using an Apple Pencil on iPad Pro 12.9” (4th gen, 2020) connected as an external display using Sidecar on macOS 15 Sequoia. Magic Trackpad is also supported (though obv not as pleasant to use). www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/dottie/
I've been using the Tileset mode of my pixel art app Dottie to work on tilesets (obv) and bitmap fonts (yes). This was an early feature request. It's been so long since I pushed a TestFlight the Dottie beta has expired. I'll launch it soon, then! 👌😎 www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/dottie/
Here’s how the layout of my SNES game is going (512 KB ROM) I plan to fill the free space with lots of levels. #snesdev
Updates! Get your updates! • Brutify, 1.0.2 (addresses minor UI consistency issues) www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/brutify/ • Feedit 1.4 (adds timezone support, improves sort/filter) www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/feedit/
Don’t mind me, I’m just designing the BG3 layer for my SNES engine in a spreadsheet 🤓 blog.gingerbeardman.com/2025/10/11/h...
If it's #scanlinesunday then it would be rude not to post the first screenshot of my SNES game engine bring-up. I'm working hard to get 60fps and fill this thing with fun possibilities, ready to hit the ground running for SNES Dev Game Jam 2026.
I’ll be going tomorrow (mostly for the food) cc @jake74.bsky.social @pablo0151.bsky.social
