Don't know enough about southern/hydroponic gardening to suggest specific options, but FWIW, I like growing mixes (which can be chosen for your zone, I think) rather than single varieties of leaf lettuces, just because they're so pretty in color (red!) and shape (ruffles!).

I remember making them ourselves when we went camping to make grilled PB&J or "pies" with canned pie filling and bread for the crust, using a pie iron like this (although I remember it as much lighter weight):

Here are the rest.

Six cat-sized quiltlets that are mostly green (except one that has a yellow border and a little green on a black background), in a variety of simple geometric designs. These are mostly left over scraps/units from a high school graduation quilt for a niece who requested that it be in her college's colors.

Wanna magnet now! My collection has plenty of room for expansion!

Five magnets on a black fridge, plus an Easter bunny in a painting smock. Three magnets state "I romanced the Runoff" (2020), or "I Romanced the Vote" (2022 and 2024, along with another one in a fancy flowery font that says "FUCK SCOTUS." And finally there's one from a similar fundraiser in the mystery reader/writer community that shouts Voting's No Mystery.

Tabby cat stretched out on nice, cool desk, between keyboard and monitor, with head butting up against a (usually fought over but rejected today) Priority Mail box. Thermometer in background reads 79 degrees Fahrenheit.

Okay, getting ready to submit all the quiltets as buy-it-nows for the @romancingthevote.com auction. Managed to take all the pix with only one major photobomb! Now I need to find a place to store everything where Mabel (and her two sisters) won't shed all over them! #QuiltSky

Five quiltlets with, appropriately, a tabby cat settling in for a bath and a nap. Quiltlets are about 18" square(ish), in traditional blocks of squares/triangles/strips in a wide variety of colors.

Made these approx 6"x8" bags from hand-marbled lightweight fabric to use as gift bags, but apparently I never give gifts this size. Should I make them a buy-it-now for @romancingthevote.com auction? And if so, suggestions for price? I've never bought a fabric bag, because I just make what I need!

Ten draw-string bags, about 6" x 8", made from marbled fabric, one with marbled hearts, the rest all-over patterns. Most have a good bit of yellow and turquoise, a few are predominantly teal blue, a few have a faded red in them.

Five lap quilts folded in quarters, inside out, with a corner flipped to show the front side. All the same basic design (nine-patch variation), all intense/jewel colors. One is purple; one has a bright blue border around a variety of blues and teals and purples; one is pink; one has a variety of blues/purples/greens and yellow block centers, all on a light background; and one is dark blues on an intensely golden yellow background (and a slightly mustardy yellow back).

Maybe she'll surprise you and get it FOR you. You can start dropping hints now! Is this the one you're talking about? Lighting isn't great at this hour. Colors truer in original group pic. Green is very neon, purple is very grape.

Quiltlet about 18" square, just 2"squares and framing, all in grape purple, neon green, turquoise and blue.

First harvest of the season (1 small head of tatsoi and 1 radish) becomes world's tiniest salad. Okay, it's more of a garnish, but not bad for late May in New England!

Small blue bowl with five or six small round leaves (tatsoi) and three slices of radish. Maybe a quarter of a serving of veg, total. If I'm estimating generously. Please tell my cardiologist that I am indeed eating my veg.

I've got a bunch of quiltlets (cat/doll sized quilts, approx 18" square) ready for buy-it-nows, and at least three lap/baby quilts (approx 40" square) ready for auction. Still need to take pix and write descriptions before June. Sneak peek of the lap quilts below.

Three quilts, all the same nine-patch variant (squares/rows of blocks are different sizes and blocks alternate light/dark), but one is shades of pink and the other two are more scrappy, shades of blue, green, yellow, pink, purple.

Here's a sampling of the drifting from the #Blizzard of '26. It's in front of my garage, and pretty, but also the deepest I've ever seen it, having lived in this house for thirty-plus years!

Snowdrifts that look like they've been carved like the edge of glaciers or mountain peaks. Rising about halfway up red garage doors for size reference. Pile rising to the left is a white plumber's van with about two feet of snow on top of it.

My two foot high raised garden looks about six inches tall with all the snow!

Made this lap quilt for friends 30 years ago. The binding (despite being well cared for) disintegrated, as happens with any quilt that's used for its intended purpose (I always hope it will be). 2d pic is after replacing the binding. Please ignore cat fur—it loves black textiles! #QuiltSky

Same quilt border (different print though), folded in half, showing the new, entirely intact, black binding. Full confession: about half of one of the pictured edges is covered with cat fur, particularly noticeable on the solid black fabric of the binding.

Three of my intended entries—my designs are a lot simpler, but I make up for it in quantity! These are baby/lap quilt size. I think I have another one in purple too, but not sure where I stored it. (I did say I was ready!)

Three baby/lap quilts in the same basic nine-patch variant, set alternating light and dark. One is a variety of jewel tones on a gray print; another is darker pinks on a pale pink print, and one is a combination of both color groups on a gray print background, with a bright blue border.222

I had a pink phase this past summer, and made three (or four?) pink quilts! Not my usual fave color, but I couldn't rest until I'd made them. Here's one. They'll likely be auctioned off the next time @romancingthevote.bsky.social has an auction.

My SIL, sadly gone now, did some amazing gingerbread art for a local competition, although none featuring an entire street! Here's the only one I could find quickly. The theme that year was apparently "Santa on vacation." All elements (except the plywood board) are edible.

Airstream-style camper made of gingerbread, with a Christmas tree lying on top of it as if just picked up from the lot, and palm trees in the background, a beach chair in front. There's a little card reciting the theme as "Santa on vacation," and a blue first-place ribbon.

It's great to be able to sew exactly what I want, except then I need to find the time. I've been thinking for a year or two about making a quilted version of this cape, either short like the red one as a "bed jacket," or ankle-length in lieu of a dressing gown.
