I can't think of anyone who has worked harder on a parasocial relationship than Tom Rogan. And this is sad to me, because I don't think Gervais has ever acknowledged his existence. After all those articles, you know how many times Ricky replied? Zero. Nilch. Nada.

On their London radio show in early 2003, "The Office" TV show co-creator Stephen Merchant, described to Ricky Gervais a protester against the then-looming Iraq War. Having seen the man shortly before entering the radio studio, Merchant wryly observed that the protester had decided "the best way to make his voice heard on the international political stage is to ride around in a tricycle wearing a jester's hat." I'm sorry, this is what Ricky Gervais would refer to as absolute twaddle. Which is to say, it is total bull excrement. Under the Nazis, German Jews were denied basic human rights on the basis of their religious or cultural identity. German ISIS fighters would be denied their citizenship due to their war against their own democratic state. For the comparison to work here, instead of being innocent victims of a xenophobic annihilation campaign, German Jews would have to have waged a terrorist campaign against a peaceful democratic Nazi Germany that treated them fairly. The center's comparison is thus an absurd contradiction in terms.

For me, Aerith is that source. She died for everyone so she could make contact with and help guide the life stream. It could not be done by her alone, but only along with everyone able to make that connection with the light. With their inner understanding and love. She just pointed the direction.

She dies, of course. Even at release, it was almost impossible to not know her fate going in. She knew it too. The remakes are more explicit about this, but the original wasn't subtle either.
