Awhile back, a friend of mine told me all about the pickled pineapple she had from The Pickle Guys in New York. We decided to get together and make our own.

I put up posters at the neighborhood bookstore, and one of their cats, James, was posed so elegantly yesterday.

My tomato harvest. I sometimes feel like my pics are underwhelming compared to people who have large gardens. But I am proud of this first little harvest

As we've been watching Ken Burns' Civil War, one thing that struck me was a portrait photo of Jefferson Davis and his 2nd wife, Varina Davis. She is such a trophy wife. She came from two wealthy southern families and was a total trophy wife. She eventually became a writer.

Got up to water the plants this morning, and decided to pick a few marigolds.

My violin teacher used to have this sign up in her window. She was a leftist Catholic who fought for more music education in our public schools. I think about this phrase a lot more these days.

We got a brand new water heater!

Last year some foliage in the alley got cut back, and this year the grapevines that were growing casually are now yielding the most fruit I have seen in the 8 years I've lived on this block.

I recently picked up a Pablo Casals record. It was pressed a couple years after his death. They're very early recordings, and of course they sound perfect. But of course what got me were the liner notes.
