Every time I go to the Pittsfield Library, I feel really sad about the bus stop on Oak Valley near Scio Church Rd. There is no sidewalk, no shelter, no seating, and this week the grass appeared to be 6-8" high. The speed limit is 45mph.
Does Beal think he'll face less competition - and continue to make a good living on tenants' backs - only if Rabhi wins? He seems threatened by the idea of renters having more choices. As does landlord Tom Stulberg, another Rabhi supporter.

Gorgeous day to ride to Destination Cyclery in Dexter, Michigan for some help with my bike. Highlights included watching a deer cross the river and a delightful brunch at Joe and Rosie's. Grateful for allergy meds, good trails, and a flexible work schedule.

#A2Council content. I am still perplexed by some mansion owners backing some DSA candidates. I hope DSA candidates vocally oppose exclusionary zoning and fight for more affordable housing of all types. We need all hands on deck! @moreneighborsa2.org

I wonder how modern SROs are financed. The article points out regulatory barriers that we should remove. But the cost of construction and the challenges of converting office buildings might be too high. I hope to learn more about financing, bc SROs do seem like a critical piece of the puzzle.

Saying more supply won't help slow price increases, calling price dynamics "trickle down," blaming developer greed, calling for demand subsidies without increasing supply... this is "folk economics" at work. In Ann Arbor, these arguments are very useful to incumbent landlords.
Whitmer gets it. Benson gets it. A large bipartisan group of state legislators get it. All 11 #A2Council reps get it. The Detroit Free Press gets it. But here in Ann Arbor, some people are still arguing whether constrained supply is pushing up the cost of housing.

#A2Council I get that a height limit in the low-rise 'hoods is inevitable, but proposed unit density limits are so counterproductive. Zoning needs to be flexible, probably through the "neighborhood context" concept, to allow small apartments citywide. Make neighborhoods affordable, win elections.
