I guess it should be an honor to be on this list, even though they totally get Luddites, GPTs, machine learning, and blockchain wrong. None of these are designed as “assistive” technologies, and none of them give anyone a “voice.”

First day of classes and my AI policy is out in the wild. We’ll see if they like it. The last three sentences were what the uni wanted. The third sentence is a bit of a reach, but I don’t trust the courts to protect end users, and a LOT of my students are immigrants that will be even less protected.

Generative AI Acceptable Use Policy that says:

“Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT are known to produce inaccurate and even harmful and hateful information. Additionally, tools like ChatGPT were created in violation of current copyright laws (content creators were not compensated for the use of their copyrighted material). Use of AI could potentially lead to users facing copyright charges depending on the outcome of current litigation. If you do choose to use any AI tool, it will be your responsibility to review, validate, and edit any AI-generated content to ensure the submitted work represents your own effort, thinking, and voice. While AI tools can serve as aids, they should enhance, not replace, students’ intellectual engagement and should be employed in alignment with the principles of academic integrity upheld by this institution. Avoid overreliance on unedited AI output and misrepresentation of AI-generated content.”

It seems that no one can figure out the actual shade of gray my walls are, including the builder that gave me the “true color match” touch up paint you see below. So apparently I must now adopt a cheetah theme for my walls since I really don’t want to completely repaint.

The state of AI hype today: completely ignoring the real damages AI is causing, (which in turn creates a need for regulation)… and then oversimplifying the issue to make it seem like the “best” option is to leave techbros alone so they can techbro all they want.

So… 107 is just “sunny,” but 109 is apparently “very hot to the point that your land will dry out into a desert”…?

Weather forecast for Texas that shows today (Thursday) will be 107 degrees, Friday will be 109 degrees, and Saturday will be 108 degrees. Thursday is just labeled as “sunny,” while the other two are “very hot.” The icon also changes to one’s with a cactus on Friday.

How do I know people are rejecting AI? Almost all AI ads on TwiXter are like this one. When your secondary set of ads for a trend start trying to capitalize on mistrust, you know there are a lot of people out there with said mistrust.
