I share letters my Grandfather wrote while fighting Nazis in WWII, while I try to do small things to fight Nazis in current day. I also like animal stuff. And trees.
By the way, this may be the last you hear from me for a few days but don't be alarmed for I will write at every opportunity... I have been sitting here writing and eating and now my cake is all gone. I have an awful appetite any more, it's sure going cost us to live when I come home...
82 years ago #OTD: "I didn't do bad at all with the mail tonight. Received 3 letters postmarked June 24, July 1st and 3rd. Also two of the packages you sent from Columbus...That piece of cake was pretty well beat up but I am eating it now and it never tasted any better, I am sure... #WarLetters
Darling you spoke of Shorty Jones winning a Purple Heart. Correction... A soldier is given the Purple Heart if he is wounded in combat in the line of duty. Personally I don't want any decorations like that and I don't think you would want me to send one home to you either." #WWII #WW2 #WarLetters
82 years ago #OTD: "You spoke of my A.P.O. number being so small -well I am in the 29th Division if that means anything to you. That explains the number. Watch the news, honey - They are making history. They are one of the outfits that made the invasion you know... #LettersFromGrandpa #WWII #History
I have found a new way to tell you how much I love you. Just what is in a G.I.'s mind when he is in a foxhole and artillery is falling around him is often discussed and I have checked several times and guess what I always think of in those moments. Every time it is you Darling...
Now that things are more or less quiet again for a few days I'll try to write a sensible letter. I know from the way I have been writing, that what I have been doing is sort of a mystery to you but I think that I can tell you now that I have been in combat for the past month... #LettersFromGrandpa
Your letters have been coming in just fine. Thank God. Today I received 4 from you postmarked July 7th to 11th..." I am fine as usual. I have been seeing a bit of action but as yet it has had no bad effects on me so please don't worry too much about that...
82 years ago #OTD: (We got 2 letters - he had more time to write another one after the first) "It has been a week since I last wrote you but this is war as you know and it just can't be helped. I will continue to do the best I can Darling... #LettersFromGrandpa #WWII #WW2 #History
82 years ago #OTD: "At last! I think Summer has come. Today is a beautiful day, just like back home. Not a cloud in the sky and it's actually hot in the sun... Everything is sort of quiet so I thought I would start your letter this afternoon and maybe by tonight I would have several pages to send...
I didn't get any mail today but I have a little spare time on my hands so the best way I know of using it is writing to you...I took a bath and cleaned up and washed some clothes (all in my steel helmet). They sure are handy things, don't know what we would do without them."
Darling, I don't blame you for feeling grouchy when you don't hear from me. I know too well just how you feel but please try to understand that sometimes it is impossible to write you but at every opportunity I have I will write you...
82 years ago #OTD: "...This evening I got 4 letters from you postmarked 24, 25, and 26 of May. Long time no hear from you but everything is fine now. Oh honey, you can't imagine how much hearing from you again helps, even if the letters are over a month old... #LettersFromGrandpa #WWII #WW2 #History
Does it look too fancy? Like #Antifa paid me to make it? #WeAreAmerica #WeAreAmerica250
I wish I knew how things at home are going. Those little things I worry about-how you are getting along with the job and about how the chickens are doing and how the folks and kids are and if you still love your husband...I sure miss your letters honey." (6 days until his next letter) #WarLetters
82 years ago #OTD: "Things are rather quiet today, so as I promised I'll try to write you a few pages about this part of the world. But first I want you to know that I am feeling as good as ever and there is nothing to be worrying about... #LettersFromGrandpa #WWII #History #1940s
Really honey, not hearing from you every day like I did in the States is the worst part of being over here... The war news still sounds very favorable on all the fronts which makes all of us over here happy...
I suppose the invasion has caused a lot of sorrow back home but over here the boys were all anxious to get it started because it had to come sooner or later. It is wonderful the way things are going...
My whole platoon are pretty nice fellows and I get along well with all of them... Our platoon leader, Lt. McLaine, is sure a swell fellow. He has been in action in several big battles and wounded a couple times but is back again for some more... #LettersFromGrandpa #WWII #History #1940s
82 years ago #OTD: "Sunday again and I should write a nice long letter but honestly I don't know what I'd write about...I answered quite a few letters. I save yours til evening in hopes of getting a letter at mail call to answer, but I have waited in vain again - no letter today...
82 years ago #OTD: "Failed to write you last night because I just couldn't think of enough to write a letter. This evening I received your letters of the 16th and 19th of May.... The war news still looks good everywhere which makes us all very happy... #LettersFromGrandpa #WWII #History #1940s
I hope you are not worrying too much Darling about my welfare. Where I am everything is going along as usual and at the present I am in no danger. I hope to get into it and do my part to bring this thing to a quick finish now that I am over here...
