I build Lego, computers, and buildings in Minnesota. Former Idahoan, forever a Bronco. @TheProski on the Bad Place
it's only Taco Tuesday because it happened to be today when I got tacos may you all eat well and prosper
If you like bagels and ever miss Bagel Bites, I have also been doing homemade pizza bagel bites as of late...which is a ludicrous amount of dinking around but delicious
he taught us to be stubborn and question authority. he didn't like cops, lawyers, or building inspectors. our church started getting weirdly conservative, so my dad left and started sending his tithe money to a homeless shelter. he'd always push back on conspiracy theories with some common sense.
he had issues with diabetes and a work injury that resulted in an amputated toe, then his leg below the knee. despite cancer and amputations, he still worked his PT and got back on the golf course on a prosthetic leg, even when they told him at first it was too risky and a long-shot.
he was a huge boise state football fan, his adopted team once we moved to boise in 1994. no matter what time of year it was, it was always a good time to talk about what the next season's prospects were, or why the P4/5 was overrated, and why we should have been in the PAC-12 years before.
he never got rich doing construction, but he did ok. he was always secretly helping people out, like paying for my last semester of school, or my honeymoon, or helping me with a house down payment. he was an opinionated asshole, but he could love anybody in front of him, no matter who they were.
he helped build up multiple companies in minnesota and then idaho, before eventually starting his own company. he always told me not to get into construction, but he was cool so I followed his lead anyway. when covid hit, he decided to retire on his terms, wound everything down, and went golfing.
he was a blunt guy, but he loved building things & he loved kids, even though he'd tell you he didn't. those blocks on the coffee table were my christmas present back when I turned 3, he made them because we were poor as shit but he had skills all my kids got to play with them (and him)
After The Game We Don't Talk About, we definitely worked out some feelings to the tune of 50-6 in 2010, despite AI hallucinating otherwise
This also reminds me that I have this from then. Desert Storm merch, I guess?
With the logo mirrored, my brain just sees Homestar Runner's face, apple bite as the mouth. My brain's auto complete can't unsee it. I blame being a millennial or something.
I for one am still reckoning with my own age, much less being the same age as competent and stylish columnists who also share my love of Gundam.
Looked up Hinckley, Minnesota to see if it was due to Gordon B or John Jr (because that would be hilarious) but instead found it was named after an Isaac Hinckley, railroad tycoon. More impressive was the blurb about Isaac Hinckley's father, Isaac Hinckley, who they should have named it for.
Working on renovating an historic building while also trying to bond with a Symbiote
