This summer, we are hosting Samuelle, a senior of @unrcabnr.bsky.social for the #MSSociety Undergrad Summer Research Program! She is examining cortical samples from #MS patients & their #genomic data. Outside the lab, she hangs out with her rabbit, Cowie (who looks like a cow).
The #DukeSCIRIP colloquium is back for another year to highlight #SingleCell and #spatial science happening at Duke, #UNC, @ncstate.bsky.social & #NCCU! This will be a day-long event (8:15am-5pm), with both academic & corporate talks. For more info and to register: dmpi.duke.edu/duke-single-... 🧬🔬
#DukeMGC & #Illumina held a seminar to present current Illumina #SingleCell projects here at Duke and results from the MGC's recent benchmarking paper (www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...) 🧬 JULY 1: Illumina single cell will be available at the MGC! Reach out for a consult: DMPI-MGC@dm.duke.edu
Meet Zach, a rising Duke sophomore and our new undergrad in the lab! He will be working with #Xenium #SpatialOmics data to examine #CNStissue #lesions in #Cancer patients with hypermutated #BrainTumors. Outside of the lab, he enjoys playing sports and hiking 🧠🌄
To celebrate Khooshbu's time the #DukeMGC, we went to Top Golf! We had an un-fore-gettable time 🤩⛳️🏌️♀️
The final #DukeSCIRIP seminar for this academic year will be 6/3 from 12-1pm, featuring a talk from Dr. Jian Hu of @emoryuniversity.bsky.social 'Uncovering the Dark Spatial Transcriptomes in Brain' For more information or to join virtually, please visit our website: dmpi.duke.edu/duke-single-...
Meet Sicheng, our new Master’s student from #DukeBiostats! She will be working on developing an analysis pipeline for #SingleCell #LongRead isoform data, with a focus on ORF annotation, NMD prediction, & protein structure prediction in the context of neurological diseases 🧬🧠
Last weekend, we had the opportunity to take part in Duke Brain Tumor Center's #AngelsAmongUs 5K & Walk for Hope! Gregory lab student, Lauren Whaley, shared her work on #GBM in the #BrainTumor science tent and Team BTOP was able to help in the fundraising of $2.8mi for brain tumor research! 🧠🔬🧬
Congrats to #DukeMGC's Khooshbu Patel, who is starting her PhD in Pharmaceutical Outcomes & Policy @ UNC Fall '26. She will focus on translating healthcare innovations, #Genomics & #PrecisionMedicine into clinical practice. Khooshbu, we are so proud and wish you all the best in this next chapter!
Another year of #GliaCamp under our belts! Shoutout to Gregory lab PhD students for sharing their #Xenium data: Emma with a talk on #MS & Lauren with a poster on #GBM 🧠🧬 Thanks to @filianolab.bsky.social for spearheading organization of this event. We look forward to it every year 🤩
Next installment of #DukeSCIRIP is NEXT WEEK on Wednesday 12-1pm! Featuring talks from the Snyder lab & Kay lab on #SpatialTranscriptomics applications in #cancer 🧬
A big congratulations to Gregory Lab PhD student, Odmaa Bayaraa, on receiving the @dukemedschool.bsky.social Dean's Award for Research Excellence! We are all so proud of her hard work and dedication and cannot wait to see what she does next 🥳🧠
The results are in - the Gregory Lab's 3rd annual #LabAppreciationWeek podium is as follows: 1st: Ellora Haukenfrers 2nd: Julia Smith 3rd: Emma Hatchell But the real winner is Emily Hocke for organizing this whole week for us! We already can't wait for next year... 🌟🧑🔬👏
To wrap up our #LabAppreciationWeek, we had a lab potluck and played Jeopardy, created by #DukeMGC's Emily Hocke & Alan Smith 🤩🍲
Fourth event of our annual lab olympics was Lab Tape Shuffleboard! 🎯🧑🔬 It was a close game, but #DukeMGC Research Tech, Alan Smith pulled away in the second round to secure a win 🏆
Third event of our lab olympics was the dry ice spoon race 🧊🥄 Disaster struck in the final heat, where our fearless leader dropped & crushed his dry ice piece.. but Odmaa Bayaraa persisted and pulled off a win! 🏃
Second event of our annual lab olympics was the glove swap race! We put gloves on, do 10 jumping jacks, and then race to take the gloves off and put them back on ⏲️🧤 Winner was honorary Gregory lab member, Dianne Cruz 🏆
First up for the 3rd annual Gregory Lab lab olympics was the 'pipette tip ejection' competition! Our fearless leader @sgrayg.bsky.social sunk a 25-point shot to seal the win 🏆
