Writer, crafter and occasionally behind the camera. Shit at telling stories aloud, but I’ll sometimes sing them. 🌈 Pōneke, NZ. (Journalist with Capital Letter, views are my own)
Finally found it: the time Bill Bailey (arriving in NZ with a comedy contingent) waiata tautoko’d with You Are My Sunshine.
lol I shared this six years ago when Ian Lees Galloway resigned. He’s now managing Opportunity. Men do okay.
There are a couple of Palestinian Christians over from Palestine this week on a speaking tour. They’re largely talking about why Christians should care about what’s happening but even if you’re not church aligned it might be of interest to hear from some folk on the ground. Pōneke on Wednesday.
Does Goldsmith understand he’s been in govt for the past two and a half years?
Be more like Merry and Pippin.. than Gollum… Gollum wants to keep the Shire to himself, the (good) Hobbits know it’s open to all. Also Gandalf would have words.
Today, the Supreme Court ruled an appellant should have been granted an order instructing media companies to takedown articles about his prior offending during the trial in case a juror looked it up. Never mind that jurors a) are told not to do so and b) would be in contempt of court for doing so.
Another incident at a Ryman facility and the HDC says it has an 18-month lag on investigations because it’s got TWO staff covering aged care. This is the only body we’ve got for investigating aged care in New Zealand and they’ve got two staff for the whole country.
Regardless of how this turns out, THIS is how the Police should handle complaints against their top brass.
Congrats to the Spinoff’s Hayden Donnell, now apparently “paid for by Atlas” for writing one slightly critical piece about Labour. If the left loses the election ‘cause folks don’t know how to take critique without screaming “GOVERNMENT SHILL” come find me, I’ll be banging my head against the wall.
Okayyy belated first policy announcement but this is a doozy!! Incentivise. Public. Transport. Use.
Absolutely support candidates telling their employers they’re standing and being put on leave during the election period. But this seems like a complete overreaction by the Police, particularly as various coalition MPs would be privy to information in their ministerial roles & still get to campaign.
All the trans joy that seeps through in this article and this how RNZ headlines it. Focus on his music, the new work, how his voice has changed post-transition and how he says it’s become a “new instrument”. Ugh.

True proof librarians are the best of us (second pic from Ashburton Library) and of course many schools will also be participating!
To all the libraries participating in #InsideOut’s Out on the Shelves Pride wonderfulness for another year - especially in small towns - thank you. We know it’s not getting nicer out there and the solidarity is appreciated. Also: be like Timaru District Council. 🌈
I’ve almost been taken out by low-flying normal sized ducks. The people answering this with anything other than “100 horses” haven’t been around horses OR ducks. Steelcap boots and some good leg padding and you’ll be fine. That quacker would take you out with one swing.
Reminder, you can’t treat people equally and expect your social support systems to succeed.
Emails to MPs in general are good. But as the next stage is the select committee process the key folks to be contacting rn are those on the committee (ie the folks pictured below) as they will be taking submissions and writing the report recommending whether Parliament should proceed with the bill.
Guess food banks haven’t been the only thing Corrections staff have been turning to of late.
The Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Bill may be a NZ First bill. But it only passed first reading because National supported it. Grigg can express all the drawbacks she likes. Her party’s vote means it now goes to select committee. I don’t know how they’ll manage submissions. #nzpol
So “grassroots” for the “Wellington Ratepayers Alliance” to have an Auckland phone number.
