Apparently, Han van Meegeren, the painter and art forger known for his fake Vermeers (most notably for selling one to Hermann Göring, which first got him into trouble then made him a Dutch hero) became so famous that his son starting to make fake Han van Meegeren paintings. 🤯

J'ai retrouvé cette vidéo d'il y a 5 ans où je me balade sur cette route que je trouvais une des plus belles d'Île-de-France, la D64 entre Arbonne-la-Forêt et Achères-la-Forêt (précisément de www.openstreetmap.org?mlat=48.3816... à www.openstreetmap.org?mlat=48.3681... ). Tout ça a brûlé. 💔

There's also the question of whether this example from Kernighan & Ritchie's ‘The C Programming Language’ counts (is a function name a verb?), and whether it already appears in the 1977 first edition (which I don't have).

A question about computer science jargon/linguistic: ‣ How did the use of the verb “escape” in “to escape a character” (e.g., in a string, regular expression, etc.) originate? What is its first recorded use in this precise meaning?

This empirical formula to compute the wet bulb temperature in function of the (dry) temperature and relative humidity is the stuff that gives mathematicians and physicists nightmares:

Mon but est d'illustrer la différence entre ces trois notions. En gros, la température humide est la température à laquelle on peut descendre en évaporant de l'eau jusqu'à saturer l'air en vapeur d'eau. Le point de rosée est celle où la vapeur d'eau déjà présente sature l'air.

Not just the British! In 1889, Gustave Eiffel sought inspiration and decided to build a larger copy of the the metallic structure that adorns the French capital's namesake: Paris, Texas. (He also got rid of the hat, which is tacky.)

Cet après-midi il y avait une petite fête de fin du chantier de la future ligne 18 du métro parisien, dont l'ouverture est prévue dans quelques mois, à la future station «Université Paris-Saclay» (située à Orsay www.openstreetmap.org?mlat=48.7121... ). J'ai pris quelques photos.

Funny, I had never heard of Roger Babson, but I met several of the people who won his 1966 “Award for Essays on Gravity” he sponsored. (Werner Israel, and briefly Stephen Hawking and Roger Penrose)

Le même graphe de températures que sur le post précédent, du 4 au 28 juin, mais avec maintenant aussi le graphe des températures extérieures. L'échelle va entre 12°C et 42°C, et les variations de la température intérieure semblent très faibles à cette échelle.

Alors oui, quand on regarde juste la température intérieure chez nous, on se rend compte que ça varie et que la clim ne marche pas correctement (même avec 3 clims d'appoint) …
