The Eloise Trio - been after a nice copy of this LP for a while, this from a record fair the other week.
Charity find from yesterday - Caterina Valente 10", picked this up for her version of "Similau"
This one? Mine's a 7". It's an EP of Tibetan folk songs (although if Google Translate is correct, the first seems to be about Chairman Mao so not sure how authenticly "folk" that one is?)
Gave the Greek shelf a little sort out last night, this one is not a keeper and is going which is a shame because that's a great sleeve. Record is a compilation given to exhibitors at the 1978 Posidonia International Shipping Exhibition
A few finds from the Spitalfields fair - lovely condition Nigerian original of the Sunny Ade (now I need to get rid of the sleeveless UK reissue I found recently!), Michael Raven & Joan Mills "Death and the Lady" RSD reissue, Mary Hopkin "Ocean Song", Anthony Rooley and James Tyler "My Lute Awake!"
Sufi "Life's Rising" (1995) Bought this a few months back in Oxfam (so had to pay 2.99 or something). Rudy Tambala from A.R. Kane doing a very mellow thing with his sister Maggie on the short-lived Virgin Ambient Series. Taped this from a friend back in the 90s, not heard it for ages
The rest of the five for £1 CDs. Had St. Germain on vinyl but sold it a few years back, still have the Air, but these both to go on the MP3 ripping pile. Alice Russell, Evelyn Glennie, William Elliott Whitmore (no idea!), Jazzmatazz 2, Ravel/Debussy string quartets and two early music ones
Highlight from a bunch of five for a pound CDs this morning - Tacoma Park "No One Waved Goodbye" (2004). Scottish slo-fi. Only know of this because Numero Group have reissued it
Another garden wall find - someone has been leaving these out, noticed a few more the other day left outside a local church too. Was hoping it would be strange music or failing that spoken word, but seems to be a CDRom and I've not dared actually look yet. Says it contains a PDF and MP3 files...
Someone leaves classical CDs outside their house, I think they must be a reviewer because a lot are promos or not even released yet. A lot of mediocre looking stuff but a few interesting titles. Picked this one from 2020 up recently - Estonian composer Cyrillus Kreek (great name!) on ECM
Another interesting recent charity shop CD - local one this, all recorded in the Lea Valley, mostly between 1998 and 2000, so well before the Olympics - sounds and and stories of the river Lea in east London
Couple of recent local charity shop CDs - Arvo Pärt "Miserere" on ECM and Ken Davis "Early Morning in the Rainforest", latter is Australian - field recordings with mellow synths
I'm enjoying finally having some order in my 45s now after a sort out. Some great tracks on Federal, this is all the ones I have, some good ones here
Massive Attack have always been a band who cared a great deal about the look of their records, so loving the graphic choice on this bootleg CD of "Protection" I saw earlier 😀
I think this is the earliest track I have by him, just worked out he would have only been 9 or 10 on this! youtu.be/O6niDDf9S2M?...
Left the Black Lace for another lucky shopper, and picked up these (hopefully slightly better) LPs instead - MJQ, Anita O'Day, Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd, Paddy Roberts, Amália Rodriguez, and a Latin American Mass thing
Morning! Six months exactly to Christmas 🎄 Time to start thinking about #VinylSanta ...? 🧑🎄
Just got this 3CD set of gospel on Tompkins Square for a tenner including postage from Discogs. Was quite pricy on release if I remember
This box was quite easy though - danceable exotica-ish stuff, mostly instros but a few vocal ones. Plenty of cultural (in)appropriation and orientalism, Edward Said would not approve
Some recent charity shop/bargain bin finds - The New Colony Six "Revelations", Prelude "After the Gold Rush", "Sweet Bonnie Bramlett" (Bonnie from Delaney & Bonnie) and Sandy Posey (country)
Not a great sleeve and possibly only of interest to @delonsblues.bsky.social but was pleased to find this rarer Nana Mouskouri LP in a local charity shop. It's a jazzy one
Not a keeper but was intrigued by this Australian pop LP, in particular why it sells for 20-30 quid on Discogs, wondered if there was some link to another band or TV but didn't see anything? They're a sibling band (plus a member's wife) and it's competent pop stuff
