Game development is sometimes spending far too long trying to decide 'should the item image show for 0.8 seconds, or 1.2 seconds? Should it fade in? Slowly disappear into the corner? #indiedev #gamedev

Maybe it opens like this...although stepping through it will still transport you directly to the fiery depths of course

Who knew a simple book could offer so many challenges!
Now you can examine the book, open the book and close the book but, if you return the book to the shelf without closing it, the game closes it for you! Made this into a reusable system now that I can apply to other objects #indiedev #gamedev

A book on a shelf? can I look at it? Of course! Can I open it and does it have a useful code inside? Double of course!
Having fun playing around some options for various potential mechanics in the game #indiedev #gamedev

Much like getting a door to open and close, I think having a PIN pad to unlock something is a pivotal moment in a point-and-click games development! Made a few tweaks to make it look a little more phone-like #gamedev #indiedev

Still trying to use up some lemons from our tree, so I made a lemon meringue pie this time. Filling was delicious, the meringue was average. Used 5 lemons...approx 100 more to use 😆

Our lemon tree has a lot of lemons, so I decided to try making my first ever baked lemon cheesecake. Turned out delicious! Unfortunately it only used about 1% of the lemons from the tree though 😆

Quite pleased with this style of conversation. The first time you ask about something you get a big explanation, but if you forget what they said you just get the basic version, so you don't have to sit through the big explanation again #indiedev #gamedev

Sometimes indie dev is working on complex systems, or grinding through some slightly tedious tasks...and sometimes you add bounce to your characters hair and spend 5 minutes just walking around admiring it 😄 #indiedev #gamedev

Patrick Swayze eat your heart out. It may seem obvious, but for gamedev reasons, not being able to walk through the door when it is closed, but being able to when its open is a huge advancement in technology! #indiedev #gamedev

I believe its compulsory to post the first working door in your game? It opens, it closes, its a miracle of engineering!
My apologies to Christian for continuously closing the door in his face #indiedev #gamedev

working on various parts of the game, but sometimes its nice to revisit the list and tick off an improvement. I wanted the selection icons to have a little more interaction, and now they do! Still a proof of concept, but already makes it feel much nicer :) #indiedev #gamedev

Spent a couple of evenings trying to get this working properly! The 'squeeze' and what Kim says are randomised.
Just occasionally when my wife asks what I have been doing on the game in the last few nights I don't think she is entirely impressed with my answer 😂 #indiedev #gamedev

Sometimes its big wins that provide motivation, like teaming up with an incredible writer. Sometimes its little wins that keep a solo dev ticking along, like working out how to use a different UI panel for a specific conversation (in this case, a panel that indicates a phone call) #indiedev #gamedev

There may be times in our game where you leap to new places. Working on a way to make that transition more dynamic with bits all flying into place #gamedev #indiedev

A little glimpse at the WIP of the phone in my game. This will function as a help system - translating, tracking objectives, offering hints, storing notes etc. Hmm..I wonder if they have cell coverage in 1700's London? #indiedev #gamedev

Playing around with how players can skip dialogue. I think its important that they can, but I dont want them to miss critical info, or great writing! I have gone with preventing skip for 2 seconds, and indicating when you can skip with a subtle brightness change in the text border #indiedev #gamedev

Playing with the idea of adding a 'summarise' option to longer unskippable cut scenes. Currently you can skip each line of dialogue, but this would skip the whole scene. It would summarise the dialogue and tell you about any missions and items gained.
What do people think? #indiedev #gamedev

Spent the last 3-4 days trying to work out why I couldn't get my player to move, or select anything (fairly critical aspects of a point-and-click adventure game!) after an update. Finally managed to figure it out, so you can point AND click again! Phew #indiedev #gamedev

Starting to feel like this thing might actually become a game. Surreal to be putting an actual authors writing in my game...surreal but truly delightful! #indiedev #adventuregame

Got a little side-tracked today and decided to figure out if I could make the dialogue text appear in a nicer way. Turns out, yep. The letters in the second bit of dialogue appear to zoom into place slightly, which I think feels nicer #indiedev

Thanks to @majormcdoom.bsky.social for the hints about different viewport settings in blender. They really make things clearer when editing models (original on the left, with changes on the right). Edges and faces are clearer, and its easier to 'feel' how the model looks #indiedev

Make a tiny change in Blender, reimport, and voilà! suddenly your character is squished as though they have a mini black hole where their, well, hole would be! (how she should look on the left, after doing almost nothing on the right) #indiedev #gamedev

Even though I am 46, and have been a dad for 24 years, cooking a meal for family and extended family is still deeply satisfying and joyful

The sky was really putting on a show this morning 🌞 #sunrise

A little behind the scenes peak. One of the things I like about game dev is how similar it is to theatre or film production, or even magic (one of my other hobbies). Its all smoke and mirrors and doing more with less #indiedev #gamedev
