For thinking through this kind of stuff and the broad societal implications of it I very much recommend The Extended Universe by @vickyacab.bsky.social
Marx's understanding of feminism can be described as not fully formed or complete but it remains robust enough for later feminists to build on top of it. One of the more recent examples I find deeply valuable being Social Reproduction Theory which explicitly credits Marx for his feminist work.
We talk a lot (as we should) about the society wide surveillance scheme that's ID laws sold as a way to keep teens off social media but I think we need to pay more attention to stuff like the "parental controls" Apple introduced this WWDC or stuff like this Mosyle email I just got promising to give
I grew up watching the original Clash of the Titans which I still love. Krull exists in roughly the same space. The story is more thread bare, but the characters work well, the effects are clearly technically worse but all the more charming.
You're never not aware of all the papier-mâché every shot is filled with because you're constantly going "wow, that's some great looking papier-mâché". The artifice is on full display in way that feels like a refreshing contrast to modern MCU style cinema but also impressive in its own right.
the most loving and weirdly high budget high school theatre production possible. It's a movie made with 500 bucks, love, and the most skilled and coolest art teacher in charge. (CN: image of a fake giant spider)
A movie that based on how I see people talking about it should be just forgettable and boring. Here's the thing however - Krull is absolutely beautiful. Everything in it is ok enough but the matte paintings, the costumes, the sets, the special effects - they're all like they came out of
Ok, I'm gonna mention Krull for the second time today. I was considering doing a thread about it and this is as good excuse as any. The story of Krull is nothing to write home about, it's extremely simple with some "oh this is a TTRPG campaign" vibes. It's a movie nobody ever really praises.
I was gonna include one of the Thematic Apperception Test images in my reply to your previous thread and then decided that.... no, I can't do a real alt text for it that would be in any way helpful without feeling mildly nauseous at this point
The last sentence reads like Richard Dawkins is about to start explaining to me that the existence of chatbots proves the blind watchmaker theory. Which might be the funniest thing since a little jar of honey.
Recently Seven Deadly Sins and the messed up things it does came up in a discussion somewhere and googling the anime made me note that for some time every show had to have a guy who literally looked like this, not even kinda like this, pretty much exactly like this.
Some time ago I made this as a joke about "everything is nationalism now" and the way fandoms move as *imagined communities* the way Rocker defines nations. This is inseparable from treating queerness as fandom and just making it obvious how much modern politics are just variations on nationalism.
You've fucked up when your argument against something can be summed up by a dril tweet except somehow you're serious.
The thing that is missing from all of these people is the recognition that their position up until now wasn't politically neutral, that it had material outcomes. The acknowledgement that the present reality is in part their fault. That had they listened, we wouldn't be here.
*Leaning over to the people saying AI is basically like cars and therefore trying to get rid of all of it is bit too extreme and difficult* “She’s talking to you”
Michael is King, while CMRN is Armor King, it’s simple and obvious.
Yes! I now get to play a random weird puzzle game about a chicken shooting cardboard boxes. Between this and discovering what that one show I remember seeing a few scenes from on TV as a kid that I could never find was (Spellbinder) it's been a good month for scratching life long brain itches for me
it's 4am here so I can't be bothered to actually do a bad photoshop but imagine I replaced the pill with the Bsky logo and it saying Bad for health and Bad for education
