GST Channel
@gst
aka GST♥ (pronounced GST大好き(daisuki)) i make a the. videos?
i thought i'd try searching "recommendations" bc i specifically remember getting a few of those recently. and something odd happened: the first few results were just people thanking me for recommendations. then there was a "results might not be accurate" warning. then there were actual recs. huh??
Let's see that Sensitive "Negative feedback"... (pic) i mean i guess?? these arent even the worst comments ive seen in the past 90 days... like it missed some rude ones that i would've included in that search. were they too rude?
... is this another LLM agent? why is "Sensitive topics" hidden under a dropdown? it's literally just the words "Negative feedback" and "Profanity" which, when clicked, autofill the below textbox. cmon.
alright, what's this now? I've learned that any time you see a sparkle next to something on a website, it means some feature has been cursed with AI integration. 🔍✨...? why has my search function been encumbered with AI?
another little yap, this time about jazz jackrabbit 2's water level. plus a quick little cover. i feel like there's a lot to love in this song!
a quick little yap about versalife from deus ex, plus a quick... "cover"? it's interesting how important the timbre is to this song.
the datamosh effect is all faked in realtime! it's made by using motion estimation on the prev and current frame, then writing the changed pixels to a buffer used as a mask. here's what that mask looks like (sans the main cube because that also broke in the upgrade...) im rly happy w this effect!
it's a small detail but i really like how this background came out. it's actually some jank polygons slowly spinning, reflecting a star cubemap. plus bokeh. (the colors look a bit different here bc i upgraded tixl and it broke this scene...)
i keep wanting 2 yap about bts stuff, so: almost every 3D asset is from ACNH. the scroll in the background that has 月 on it? i coded that to be the day but stuck it on monday. the clock, i set to start at 3:08, in reference to this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=voA7... it updates in realtime :)
while im at it, on my sequel video, im going to run a test with this devious and maniacal alternate thumbnail.
thinking about this comments i got... i actually have exactly one thing to say about moon child: it's cheerful and optimistic in a way that i think everyone yearns for right now. that's the end of this video essay about moon child thanks for watching
this story is so wild to me. a painful portent of a changing industry. i have a suspicion that this experience is not uncommon for people in the games industry, given enough time
me citing a past video i made in the references section of a new video im making
in the mid/early 90s, everyone hated the word "multimedia". it does have a specific definition: text, audio, video, and data combined into a single package. but it was overhyped and lost all meaning. these usenet posts illustrate the sentiment. neat right? anyway, have you heard of AI?
OK NEVERMIND AGAIN this does have interesting implications for the timeline of John's Sega Channel Menu song, though. but I already voiced that in my original apparently-correct-the-first-time video
i had a suspicion that this song was scored by someone else but couldnt find a source. well, the easiest way to find a source is to be publicly wrong 😭 sorry to David Javelosa!
sometimes you'll get somewhere with a reply that affirms their experience + expands on it, like: "yep, that was the commonly understood explanation for a long time! makes you wonder where that came from since it's so different than what the designer said." but then sometimes you'll get this, lol
i do think there's a funny thread connecting captain beefheart, jsrf birthday cake, and 100 gecs...
i love the innocent and joyful tone of this comment. oh no, the website belonging to a person that disappeared from the internet 23 years ago is down :(
yeah im still in the rabbit hole. check out this excerpt from 1984(!!!!!!!!!!!!). this is literally what ive been saying. i guess im just 40 years slow.
bro i don't know if i can survive this rabbit hole of contemporary anthropological studies of 90s internet culture. the pull is so strong. im gonna be stuck here for months
real af. if you like someone's music, tell them! if you like someone's art, tell them!
doin some unguided research. i love love the anthropologically phrased description of "being online" from the early 00s (text from Rene T. A. Lysloff's "Musical Community on the Internet: An On-line Ethnography", 2003)
for now i can offer you a pic that i took while i was out (i went to the beach) (mandatory vacation business meeting thing) (i saw a bird)
btw i kinda love how the in-site video editor looks. check out that gradient!
i just changed the thumbnail to pepe silvia + pictures of my video script. (+ AB testing) i think that's going to set a better expectation for viewers going in. and i think it's genuinely funny how weird my video scripts look (see below). i'll just redact text instead of hitting backspace lol
