Secondly it reveals what many people have suspected for a long time and which Hilary Cass confirmed a few days ago; namely that the NHS “services” for young trans and non-binary people are deploying state-mandated conversion therapy for trans children in the new clinics set up by Wes Streeting. This deeply transphobic government would not make something it is doing illegal.

This is what Cass said in an interview with BBC News;

“It may be that if they were prescribed puberty blockers instead, that would give more time for the therapist to work with them and perhaps come to a different solution than a long-term life on medication.”

The government is carrying out state-mandated conversion therapy on trans children, this bill formalises and legitimises that practice. This is horrific enough and has echoes of state psychiatric ‘normalisation’ processes carried out in the Soviet Union and in Putin’s Russia today as well as in the UK’s own past. The fact that, in essence it effectively legalises private conversion therapy for trans people means that this is not a ban, but rather a manual for conversion therapists.
