Up to 74 freight flights a week that have been permitted to fly in over Botany Bay to land at Sydney Airport during the 11pm to 6am curfew will be forced to use the new $6 billion international airport at Badgerys Creek from November 1. But the prospect of planes flying in and out of the curfew-free airport in the city's west during the middle of the night worries some nearby residents.

Apart from cargo flights, the number of large passenger aircraft granted exemptions to land during a so-called shoulder period at Sydney Airport between 5am and 6am is also being cut.

On the good news side of the ledger, Ausftralia’s wholesale energy prices are trending DOWM despite the sudden rise in gas prices, all while moving from fossil fuel to renewables (plus massive investment in batteries). We’ve gone from most expensive to least expensive of the nations studied here.

Secretive religious sect The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church has ordered its members to
purge their homes of animals, leaving some Australian families heartbroken as they feel pressured to kill or abandon their pets.
Members inside the group, formerly known as Exclusive Brethren, say some animals, including a kitten, have already been put down since this month's edict from the sect's upper echelons, which has controversial ties to conservative politics and substantial financial holdings.

Taylor’s quote here is a foolish lie, but the UBS comment is a selective framing that lacks key context. Keeping coal plants “running as long and as hard as possible” will simply not bring prices down. There is no pricing scenario in which that happens. It’s absurd. www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...

Opposition Leader Angus Taylor this month said a Coalition government would "work with coal-fired power plant owners to keep them running as long and as hard as possible to get electricity prices down".
Coalition and One Nation MPs will point to market analysts including UBS, which on Thursday said that "the retirement of coal-fired power stations will create a step change increase in electricity prices for each generator that retires".
